The Voice of Mukesh #74
– – – – – – – – – – – – –
Today we are treading the centenary celebration for this great singer, Mukesh. The effort has been to post one or two of his songs everyday this week. As discussed earlier, there still are quite a good number of his song, both film and non-film, that are still awaiting to come on board, so we have a fair sampling to choose from.

Anand Bakshi (21st July 1930-30th March 2002) whose birthname was Bakshi Anand Prakash Vaid, was a poet, first and foremost. Writing poetry was his hobby from a young age. He used to write occasionally, even after he joined the navy. He used his songs & lyrics in local programmes related to his troop. Today’s song is from an obscure, neglected film 26th January-(1956).
India got Independence in 1947, but till 1950, we still had the British King as our Head of the country and all British laws and rules applied here. It was only on 26th January 1950 that we shed the title of ” a Dominion of the British Empire” and we became an Independent Republic. We had our own Head of the Government and our own laws and rules to follow. We had our president and Prime Minister and we were a Democratic Nation – no more a part of any kingdom anymore.

Mukesh and his Composers – 28A
——————————————–
As we continue our journey of posting obscure gems of Mukesh which are relatively less heard, we come across many interesting and sometimes unfortunate stories in the making of some the films. Sudhir ji sought to know, if I would be interested in posting a song from the film Society (early 70s, 1987, 2019). I said, I am aware that the song from this film is available, but I would take it up sometime later. However, he said that it must be part of the celebration of Mukesh’s birth centenary. It was an offer I could not refuse or postpone and hence this post.
