When I look at this day ten years ago (28 September 2011), I find that as many as eight songs were covered on this day ten years ago. Six out of eight songs were Lata Mangeshkar songs to celebrate the 82nd birthday of Lata Mangeshkar.

In the early 1940s, New Theatres (NT) was going through some lean period as some of its films like ‘Meenakshi’ (1942), ‘Saugand’ (1942), ‘Kashinath’ (1943), ‘Waapas’ (1943) etc could not garner box office success. During this period, there were exodus of some of the artists and technicians from NT to Bombay. In this background, NT produced ‘Udayer Pathe’ (1944) in Bengali with some new artists, new technicians and also with a new director, Bimal Roy who was the Cinematographer and the Editor with NT. The film became a big box office success, recouping to some extent the lost glory of NT.

Today 26th September’2021 is the thirty-secondth Remembrance Anniversary of Legendary Singer and Music Director of yesteryears Hemant Kumar.
Hemant Kumar Mukhopadhyay was born on 16th June 1920 at Benaras, Benaras State under British India.
He passed away on 26th September 1989 at the age of sixty-nine.
As a fan of Hemant Kumar’s voice, I had always liked his singing and his compositions that he has given us in the Hindi Film Music. He also sang in many regional languages including my mother tongue – ‘Marathi’. Ravindra Sangeet sung by him in ‘Bengali language’ is an immortal gift he left for all music connoisseurs.

Hullo Atuldom
Today we are revisiting a movie that released in 1966 and was directed by J B H Wadia. The songs were all written by D.N. Madhok and C Ramchandra was the music director. It had 8 songs of which only 2 are on the blog. These are the ones posted:

Today’s song is from an obscure Costume film, Sardar-1940. The film was made by Prakash Pictures, Bombay. It was directed by Dwarka Khosla and the music was by the favourite MD of Prakash Pictures- Shankar Rao Vyas. All the 15 songs were written by Balam Pardesi. However HFGK lists only 12 songs under the film title and 3 more songs are further added through ‘Addenda’, at the end of the Kosh. Today’s song is the first song of this film to be posted here.
