I was thinking of writing a post for a long time but never put thoughts into digital format. I am “The” Ms. Lazybones 🙂
Finally, thanks to the mail thread about the November 7th Gangout in Bangalore which is currently in progress with lots of enthusiasm, I am ready with a post.
In the mail thread, our own Sudhir ji added Srinivas Ganti ji inviting him to the gangout. Though Ganti ji is unable to attend it, he shared with us an article written by him on few of Lata ji’s melodies. Being a die-hard fan of Lata ji, I was completely bowled over. I immediately mailed Ganti ji about re-using his article in a series of posts. I didn’t expect him to reply so fast, I got a reply within one hour. Permission was granted 🙂 Not only that, he even shared a link where transliteration of the lyrics were made available by none other than him.

Today’s song is a special song for several reasons. The first reason is that with this song posted today, film Memsaahib-56 completes all the songs on this Blog. Secondly This song is shot on Meena Kumari,who, for a change,can be seen in a very jolly,smiling and joyous mood. She is also in western outfits. This is a film,before she put on lot of weight at wrong places, and to hide it, she was always dressed in sarees with long sleeve blouses. The third and most important reason is, this film song video shows many pets,like Cats, Dogs and Birds. I am sure, Atul ji will like this song very much. Meena Kumari is probably celebrating the birthday of one of her pets. This is also one of the rare films of composer Madan Mohan,in which almost all songs had become popular.

Genius of Jaidev – 22

Normally, a music director superbly composing smooth, not noisy, but melodious tunes with Indian classical music base, Jaidev has composed a western music based foot tapping song as well. May be it was the demand of the film scenario!! And who is among the more adept artists to sing such songs? Asha, of course. So here it is a song from Jaidev in the voice of Asha but in an entirely different style. Just compare this to the previous posted song of Asha from the same film, same lyricist and by the same music director.

My last song in the ‘Genius of Jaidev’ series was posted on 6th January 2015. So it is after a gap of more than half a year that I resume the series with Asha’s song from the 1956 film ‘Samundari Daku’. Three(actually four, as ‘Dil Jawan Hai Aarzoo Jawan’, both solo by Talat and Talat-Asha duet are posted as one posting) out of six songs of this movie are already there on our blog. If I liken songs in the blog to rain drops, then one must say that the blog is suffereing from less rain fall this year compared to last year. 🙂 From a regular downpour of six songs a day, we are these days reduced to a trickle of one or two songs a day and there have been even some dot days in the blog. The last century celebration in the blog happened ages ago, viz on 3 may 2015, exactly 50 days ago.

I think people of my generation (born in late sixties & early seventies) got introduced to Kavi Pradeep ji’s songs mainly through his patriotic songs and devotional/philosophical songs played on loud speakers during Independence Day, Republic days, other days of national importance and main festivals of the year.
