Today (17 september 2018) is the 19th rememberance day of Hasrat Jaipuri (15 April 1922 – 17 September 1999). Hasrat Jaipuri (and also Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan) made his debut with “Barsaat”(1949). What a sensational debut it was for this musical team. This team of lyricists and music director lasted for nearly two decades and the team was broken, first by the death of Shailendra and then by the death of Jaikishan. Also, Raj Kapoor, after the box office failure of “Mera Naam Joker”(1970) dropped his entire music team and signed up an entirely new team, beginning with “Bobby”(1973).

Seriously, for some reason, I have always carried this impression that this song is already posted on our blog. And not just that, also that it has been posted long back. The song itself has not been seen online for a long time. And dear friend, Shri Arvinder ji, has been requesting me for months now to upload it. And I have been postponing it, for reasons of other preoccupations. His requests have recently been turning more sinister. So I was just by the way checking status of films of 1960s. And found that this song is not on the blog.

27th August – a traveling tour, a distant land, and an unexpected loss; a loss that is as numbing even today, as shattering as it was when it happened then. 1976, and a hotel in Detroit, USA. The soul of the voice and the voice of the soul – both were stilled forever. A life of just 53 years. And a singing career that was wonderfully placed. Both cut short by the matters of the heart – matters that could not be set right.

With the passing away of Gopal Das Saxena ‘Neeraj’ in the evening of July 19, 2018, the country has lost the last doyen of the progressive school of Hindi poetry. And with this, we have lost another ‘Sahir Ludhianvi’ of Hindi film songs. His association with Hindi film industry especially during 1970-75 had taken the Hindi film music to a new height. I would say that Neeraj has elongated the golden period of Hindi film music.

Missing Films of 1960s – 68

Fifteen days and thirty one posts later – that is the amount of days and posts that I missed keeping up with on the blog, with dear Atul ji keeping up with the pace all alone. I have a lot of excuses to give, but no reasons that may be convincing. Just flowing along with certain compulsions and different priorities. But I had to get back in action today. After getting a word from Atul ji about his traveling plans, just to hold on and not allow any more dot days to go by might just be a good accomplishment. So, I am back again, and hopefully should be holding fort for now.

So, minus 1 and plus 1, we still got to the 100th Yippeee film yesterday.
Minus 1 because on 3rd April, Atul ji had announced the Yippeee-ing of the film ‘Razia Sultan’ (1983), after posting its ‘sixth + seventh’ songs together – an announcement that turned out to be incorrect. Avinash ji pointed out that there is still one more song to be posted from this film. With some more leg work and info-search we now have more detailed info about the song list of this film.
