When Alam Ara was released in 1931, people were awe-struck. Additionally, there were 7 songs in it. It was a novelty that the moving images on screen not only talked but they also sang. Alam Ara was lauded as a Landmark. One would imagine that there must have been a spate of Talkie films in its wake, but surprisingly only 24 in 1931, 61 in 1932 and 76 films in 1933 were made. This was because silent films were still being made till september 1934. Further the new filmmakers were yet to join the field. After 1934 the number crossed 100 and never stopped again.

There are already two songs from Chhalia (1973) here. Therefore, I am glad to add another one to make it a trio. The music director is R D Burman. As with many of his good scores, this one is also for a film, which flopped badly and sank without a trace, till the Pancham renaissance in the last few years resurrected its songs.

“Paanch Dushman”(1973), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog is an obscure movie. From the little that I know, this movie was produced and directed by Manu Narang. The movie had Manu Narang, Pran, Vinod Khanna, Prem Chopra. This is what I have been able to gather from sites that claim to know everything about every movie but their information often leave much to be desired. I have also read some other names as the director of this movie. Not just that, this movie is even confused with another movie called “Daulat Ke Dushman”(1981). And as can be seen, the cast above does not name a lady either.
