Lovely greetings for a wonderful Eid celebration today, to one and all.
Today, we celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzaan. Today is the first day of the month of Shawwaal, the tenth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. Ramzaan, which is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar, is observed as a fasting period by Muslims who abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset. Fasting during Ramzaan, helps in developing self-control and is a way of getting closer to Allaah. It is historic record that the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in the last ten days of the month of Ramzaan. Today’s festivities mark the end of the fasting period.

It is said that she was the highest paid film actors of her time and in one film, ‘Chandrashekhar'(1948), she was paid one rupee more than the remuneration paid to her lead actor Ashok Kumar. Sahir Ludhianvi, probably took a hint from her when he started demanding one rupee more than that paid to the music directors.

Pankaj Mullick, the name that shines in the Bengali music and culture as one of the brightest stars. Most of us are familiar with Pankaj Babu as being an accomplished composer and singer. But, much more than that, he was an innovator par excellence. Not many are familiar with the fact that this gifted musician, through his experimentation with providing music to films, originated the concept of background music in Indian cinema, to accentuate the emotions, the action and the pace of the scenes on screen.
