“Ratan”(1944), or ‘Rattan” as it is mentioned in old posters, was a turning point in Hindi movie music. Before this movie, the movie music was based on classical music. But the music of this movie broke new grounds and introduced music based on folk music. And the folks (ordinary public) lapped up this music. And soon, every other music director jumped onto the band wagon and Hindi movie music began to enjoy much higher level of popularity among public.

“Dev Kanyaa” (1946) was a movie about which very little information is available. Those were the days when the present day legends had yet to become legends. For instance, Lata had yet to make her mark as a playback singer those days.

“Shehnaayi” (1947) was a box office hit movie. One big attraction of this movie was its music. The movie had some path breaking songs in it.
