#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————
In this post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Taajposhi-1957’. This movie had made its debut on the blog long back on 03.01.2014. No songs from this movie were posted on this blog thereafter; the non-availability of these songs on internet might have been the reason behind this. However, now I noticed that some songs from this movie (if not all) are available on internet. And when I looked for this song which has the voice of Talat Mahmood, and found that it is available, I am taking this opportunity to present it here.
This song is a duet song in the voices of Asha Bhonsle and Talat Mahmood.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 44
The title song of “Hawas” (1974) remains to be posted on this blog. So here it is – the song is “Yeh Hawas Kya Hai” sung by Asha Bhosle, written by Sawan Kumar and composed by Usha Khanna. The song is by no means a rare or a rarely heard song but I have added it to my list because of a request from a friend.
As mentioned in my earlier post, ‘Hawas’ is directed by Sawan Kumar for ‘Mercury Productions’. He was also the producer, storywriter and the lyricist of this movie. The star cast includes Anil Dhawan, Neetu Singh, Bindu, Vidya Sinha, Shiv Kumar, Fariyal, Pradeep Kumar, Randhawa and Mehmood. Supported by Pichoo Kapoor, Ashok Khanna, Randhir, Asit Sen, Shera, Basant, Neelam, Nelu, Sharmilee, Jugnu, and Coca-cola. Rekha and Vinod Mehra made friendly appearance in this movie.

Today’s song is from the film Usha Kiran-1952.
In the month of September-2014, I had started a series on this Blog, titled “songs from Artists’ name films”. It ran from 18-9-2014 to 8-10-2014. I covered 10 films like Madhubala-1950, Nargis-1946, Veena-1948, Renuka-1947, Madhuri-1932, Hurricane hansa-1937, Zubeida-2001, Kamla-1946 and Asha-1948. When I came to the 10th and the last film Usha Kiran-1952, I realised that actress Usha Kiran was not in the cast of that film. In all other films, then discussed, the titled actress was in its cast. I was shocked. Nevertheless, I wrote the article and sent it for posting. But then on, I became alert and checked all the films selected for any series, fully and carefully.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 43
“Aao Yaaron Gao” by Asha Bhosle does not fit under the Kamsune/Ansune song category, but a dear friend and co-contributor Raja Swaminathan jee indicated that these two gems from the movie “Hawas” (1974) were not posted, I took a decision on including both of them (song # 43 & 44) under this category.
‘Hawas’ is directed by Sawan Kumar for Mercury Productions. He was also the producer, storywriter and the lyricist of this movie. The star cast includes Anil Dhawan, Neetu Singh, Bindu, Vidya Sinha, Shiv Kumar, Fariyal, Pradeep Kumar, Randhawa and Mehmood. Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 40
Today’s song “Yeh Hum Jaante Hain” is from “Aaj Ki Dhara” 1977. It is sung by Asha Bhosle, with music by Sapan-Jagmohan and lyrics by Naqsh Lyallpuri.
“Aaj Ki Dhara (Aaj Ki Radha) is a social drama that underwent production challenges and censorship issues, notably over its title. Featuring a stellar ensemble of actors—Mahendra Sandhu, Rehana Sultan, Waheeda Rehman, Danny Denzongpa, and Ranjeet—the film centers on an ordinary person’s courageous fight against societal corruption and injustice, highlighting themes of morality, family, and the individual’s place within traditional social structures. Its music, with evocative melodies and emotionally rich lyrics, complements the film’s tone, even as its production history remains a notable part of its story.

Today, August 19, 2025, is the 6th Remembrance Day of a ‘ruhaani‘ music director, Mohammed Zahoor Khayyam Hashmi (18/02/1927 – 19/08/2019), better known as Khayyam. His musical career can be divided into three parts. The first part (1948-67) was his struggling years during which he mostly got low budget films. In the second part (1967-74), he took sabbatical from the Hindi film industry and concentrated in composing non-film Hindi songs. In the last part of his musical career, (1974-2013) he rejoined his musical career in Hindi films during which he had a successful stint both financially and career-wise.
Khayyam was born in Rahon in Nawanshahr district (now Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) of Punjab in a Muslim scholar’s family who loved poetry and music. There used to be a regular gathering in his father’s large library room to discuss poetry and music which included films as well as classical music. All the family members were highly educated. His father expected Khayyam to follow suit. But he was glued more to the gramophone record player listening to film songs than to his schoolbooks (akin to the addiction to smartphone among today’s school going children) as he wished to become an actor-singer like K L Saigal, his idol.
