Today’s song is from an obscure, social film-Deep Jalta Rahe-1959.
India has been, from the beginning, a prolific producer of films.Films have become an inseparable part of Indian people. Earlier there were other sources of entertainment like Radio, dramas, travel, Jatras, get togethrs etc. But now Entertainment means only films.
In January 2022, Shri Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji of Jodhpur- a well known Musicologist and a collector of exclusive records- published some statistics on RMIM forum about Hindi films. According to it, the total number of Hindi films from 1931 to June 2017 (86.5 years) was 12891, giving an average of 150 films per year. The averages per decade till the year 2000 came to 134 films, but in the next 16.5 years the number of films was 208.

Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 106
Here’s another duet to feature in the Rare/Rarely Heard song series of Asha Bhosle. This time she sings this song with Kishore Kumar. The song “Tere Bina Main Kuch Bhi Nahi Hoon” is written by Gulshan Bawra and composed by RD Burman. The movie is “Jaan-E-Jaan” (1983). The movie went into production in mid seventies under the title “Nikamma” but got delayed and was released in 1983 as “Jaan-E-Jaan”.
This movie was directed by Ramesh Bahl for Manoranjan movies. The movie had Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Bindu,Ranjeet, Ajit, Paintal, Satyen Kappu etc in it.

“Wahan Chalo Jis Jagah Aur Koi Na Ho” by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle is my next song in the Rare/Rarely Heard songs of Asha Bhosle. This song is penned by Anand Bakshi and composed by RD Burman. The song is from the 1976 movie Dhongee!
“Dhongee” was directed by Ashok Roy and produced by Kant Kumar productions. It has a starcast of Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Asrani, Sujit Kumar, Farida Jalal, Iftikhar, and Premnath. Rakesh Roshan had a friendly appearance.

‘The Killers’ (1969) with its alternative title ‘Ham Sab Qaatil Hain’ (1969) was produced by A V Mohan under the banner of Sangam Pictures and was directed by Maruti. The cast included Dara Singh, Ajit, Sheikh Mukhtar, Helen, Paul Sharma, Amar, Kundan, Bela Bose, S K Prem, Leela Chitnis, Maruti etc.
The surprise element in the film was the unusual role of Dara Singh as a secret agent, something like the role of Jeetendra in ‘Farz’ (1967). Probably, the success of ‘Farz’ (1967) may have inspired director, Maruti to develop the character of Dara Singh on that line. For the first time, I have watched Dara Singh in immaculate western attire and dancing with girls. But he is no ‘jumping jack’ like Jeetendra. Ajit had a double role in this film.

The cast included Sunil Dutt and Shyama in lead roles supported by Kumkum, Agha, B M Vyas, Sheila Vaz, Wasti, Uma Dutt, Bhagwan, Neelambai, Satya Rani, Dalpat, Kesar, W M Khan, M K Hasan, Madhu Apte, Damu Anna Malvankar etc. Probably, this was the only film in which Sunil Dutt was paired with Shyama in lead roles.
