Perceptions about singers, lyricists and music directors can often be so misleading. For example, if Mukesh and Lata sing a duet written by Majrooh and composed by Chitragupta, then what does one expect ? A mythological song ? Or perhaps a sad song ? Or a song based on rural characters ?

Late 1960s was a time of glut for quality songs, so much so that these songs jostled for space and many great songs failed to catch the ears of the audience. Though I very much lived through those yeras, even I missed out listening to quite a few such songs, as I am discovering these days almost on a daily basis.
