Today (24 march 2016) is Holi, the Indian festival of colours. This happens to be the eighth Holi festival for this blog.

It goes without saying that being around for so many years and celebrating this (as well as other festivals) together is in itself a cause for celebration.

LOST AND FOUND-GEMS FROM UNRELEASED FILMS…Song No. 11
———————————————————–

it is not that Unreleased films were the speciality of the 40s or 50s. on the contrary, the percentage of such films has increased from the last few years. What I learnt from last few days, while working on this series is, that the number of incomplete or unreleased films was the maximum- to the extent of almost running over 100- during the years 70s and 80s. If you see the statistics, you will find that the number of censored films has also increased systematically from 1970 onwards. In 1990, it touched 200 films and thereafter from 2000, it has always been between 200 to 300, touching 250 in 2005.

When I look at the names of producer, director, lyricist and music director of “Aabroo” (1968), I realise that this is the same team of “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966). Like the 1966 movie, “Aabroo” (1968) too was a musical blockbuster but no great shakes storywise. “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966) had a great starcast that was sadly wasted. It turns out that the makers had not lost their touch and here they successfully wasted actors like Ashok Kumar, Rehman, Shashikala, Leela Naidu, Jeevan, Mukri, Sunder, Tun Tun, Lalita Pawar, Nirupa Roy, Niranjan Sharma, Praveen Paul, Ravi Kant, Uma Khosla, Nita etc. This movie also had Deepak Kumar, Vimi in lead roles who were immune to such wastage. 🙂
