“Joru Ka Bhai” (1955) was Produced and directed by Chetan Anand for Mahshakti Films, Bombay. The movie had Balraj Sahni, Sheela Ramani, Johnny Walker, Rasheed Khan, Praveen Pal, Kumkum, Radhika, Vijay Anand etc. in it.

Asha-ji had released an album of her songs as a tribute to MD Jaidev, where she gave number of songs that ware recorded but never utilized or published. She also requested Amol Palekar to let her include some of the numbers from his unfinished films. I have no information and am in total dark about Amolkar Palekar’s unfinished film ‘Footpath’, from which today’s song is posted. I request some knowledgeable members like Arun-ji to shed some light to it. (Tamaso ma Jyotir gamaya)

Genius of Jaidev

The twelfth gem in the series of ‘Genius of Jaidev’ is from a 1978 film ‘Tumhare Liye, based on the tale of lost love, sacrifice and reincarnation. Produced by Raj Tilak and directed by Basu Chaterjee, it had lyrics by Naqsh Layalpuri and music by Jaidev. The star cast included Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Neelam Mehra, Indrani Mukherjee, Anita Guha, Brahm Bharadwaj, Suresh Chatwal, A K Hangal, Dinesh Hingoo, Pinchoo Kapoor, Ratnamala, Zarina Wahab, Om Shivpuri etc. In spite of the mighty cast of that time, the film flopped at the box office and the excellent music of Jaidev went mostly unnoticed except of a Lata’s song ‘Tumhe dekhati hun to lagta hai’. Genius of Jaidev

In 1973 a producer named Ramesh Khosla was making a film, but the production was shelved due to his death. Jaidev had recorded few songs of Lata and Mukesh for that film. After a long long time, Robin Khosla, son of Ramesh, wrote a story line on Kashmir issue for a film called ‘Chand Grahan’, and accommodated those unreleased songs in the film. We do not know whether the film on that sensitive subject was ever made, passed censors and even released, but in 1997 the audio of this movie songs were finally released. It was 24 years after the demise of Mukesh and 10 years after the death of Jaidev, that these melodious songs saw the light of the day. Two of the Mukesh songs are already covered on this Blog. The presentation today, is one of the two Lata songs, from that film. Arun ji may shed some light on the star cast and some trivia about the film.

1977 ‘Alaap’, a classic film, produced and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee with star cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Chhaaya Devi, Asrani, Om Parkesh, Farida Jalal etc had superb music by Jaidev and beautiful lyrics of Dr. Harivanshrai Bachchan and Dr. Rahi Masum Raza. There were eleven songs, and two out of them were in two parts. Since those two songs, viz ‘Mata Saraswati’ and ‘Aayee ritu saawan ki’ were combined and presented for the Blog, all, except the present song, are already covered. I may get first time credit to put ‘Alaap’ in the list of ‘Movies-All songs covered’.

“Alaap” a 1977 film was produced by Hrishikesh Mukerjee and N.C Sippy and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The film star cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Chhaya Devi, Sanjeey Kumar, Asrani, Farida Jalal, Om Prakash, Manmohan Krishna, Master Ravi, A K Hangal, etc. The film was a musical and was one of the best offerings of MD Jaidev’, during his marvellous carrier. Dr Rahi Massom Raza and Harivanshrai Bachchan provided lyrics for the film.

When I plan to write an article for any series or a song, I ensure that I gather more than necessary material,so that I can select the desired material from that.In such exercises,many times I come across some unusual songs-in the sense that sometimes the singer is uncommon,or the theme of the song is different,or the composer is special or even the song is too obscure but needs an exposure. In such cases,I keep these songs in the ‘Draft’ section of my computer,to be used in future, at an appropriate time.
