One song from this film “Yahudi ki Beti” was posted in the blog by Sudhir Sir. This link to this particular song under discussion now has been with me for a long time. There is a lot of confusion in youtube and even earthmusic.net about the name of the music director of this film. Even the name of singer is also a confusion. This particular link that I have found is for Mohammed Rafi solo version. The clip itself is giving the name of music director as Hemant Kumar. Earthmusic mentions this song as sung by Lata Mangeshkar and also by Asha-Hemant Kumar.”The songs are confused and mixed up with “”Yehudi ki ladki”(1957). To add to the confusion, there was a film with similar name i.e. “Yahudi ki Ladki” in 1933 too.

Today (17 september) is the death anniversary of Dev Kumar, an actor who was active from 1960s to 1980s. Not too many songs were picturised on him in Hindi movies because he mainly acted as a baddie. But there were a few movies where he acted as the lead actor and songs were picturised on him.

There have been two Hindi movies called “Shama” and there are many people including “experts” who get mixed up in this confusion. There movies were “Shama” (1946) and “Shama” (1961). The confusion is compounded by the fact that the music directors of these movies were Ghulam Haider and Ghulam Mohammad respectively and there are people who think that the two were the same person. In fact I once watched a podcast about old songs where the podcaster very knowledgeably told the audience that Ghulam Haider, who composed the music of “Shaheed” (1948) later composed the music of “Pakeezah” (1972).

Recently (on 3 august), we were celebrating birth anniversaries of two legends of Hindi cinema, Shakeel Badayuni and Jaidevji. Atulji had posted a few melodious songs sent by contributors with all the information about these personalities, their contributions, movies, etc. As a tribute to Shakeel Badayuni, I was listening to many songs penned by him and finally decided to send the song “O jaane waalon jaa o na…” of Mother India, to pay tribute to SB. While writing the words of this song, I was thinking about another song picturized on the same situation, natural disaster, where people of the village/town are leaving because of the drought condition.

Doob raha hai mera dil shaam se

When Raja pointed it out to me that today (10 may) was Kaifi Azmi’s death anniversary, I began to look for a few songs to discuss. It may sound easy but searching for a Kaifi Azmi song (or for that matter any other artist’s songs) is not a simple affair if that artist is well represented in the blog. More than one hundred of Kaifi Azmi’s songs have already been discussed in the blog. In other words, most well known Kaifi Azmi songs are already there, and only the lesser known songs remain to be discussed. I have already discussed one such lesser known song of Kaifi Azmi. And here is another song which is also quite an obscure song.
