This is one song that was a long pending farmaish. But I was not able to post in earlier since I was unable to locate the video link of this song.
Now that this link is available, here is this post about this song from “Phir Subah Hogi” (1958). This movie had Raj Kapoor in the lead role and this song, which is sung by Mukesh, is picturised on Raj Kapoor.

Talat Mehmood was trying his hands on acting in addition to playback singing in 1950s. His singing career suffered as a result. What is more, sometimes the music directors in movies where he acted would contemplate using the voice of some other singer for Talat Mehmood. That way, Talat Mehmood sometimes found himself in the same boat as Kishore Kumar.

“Phir Subah Aayegi” was a different kind of movie where all the action happens in one night. And despite such a small time span, the movie manages to have time for several songs. This movie, I am told is based on the story “Crime and Punishment” by Russian Novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Mausam mausam lovely mausam

There was one chalu timepass song in the movie called “Thodi Si Bewafaai” (1980), that was fairly popular at that time. This song was a duet sung by lesser singers (Anwar and Sulakshana Pandit) and the song went “Mausam mausam lovely mausam”. One oes not associate such chaalu kind of lyrics from Gulzar but he actually wrote this lyrics.

Somehow I feel that “Umrao Jaan” was to Rekha what “Paakeza” was to Meena Kumari. Both these movies were of a similar genre, showing a courtesan singing Mujra in a kotha.
