“Milan” (1967) was the biggest musical blockbuster of the year. Its songs had swept all the popularity charts in existence at that time. ( Well there used to be just a solitary such chart those days).

Bollywood movies of yesteryears used to have party songs cum piano songs where people would be gathered in the palatial mansion of the hero/ heroine and the hero/ heroine would be asked to sing.

“Do Beegha Zameen” (1953) was a critically acclaimed movie. This movie won several prestigious awards, and it in fact swept the inaugural filmfare awards, if I am not mistaken.

I have posted a few songs from “Ziddi” (1964) already. This was a Shammi Kapoor type movie ( Joy Mukherji and Asha Parekh starred in it). One major difference in this movie from other Shammi Kapoor type movie was that the music director was S D Burman in this movie.

“Insaaniyat” (1955) was one movie which brought Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand together. Bina Rai and Vijaylaxmi were also there in this movie.

When I was young, I preferred the music of new movies rather than old movies, and it always annoyed me that there were several movies released in 1970s which had the same names as movies of earlier decades. Thus we had movies like “Andaaz”, “Anpadh”,”Parvarish” etc released in 1970s which had same names as movies of 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. On Vividh Bharati, when I heard the name of these movies , I half expected to hear a song from the newer movie, but I invariably got to hera a song from the older movie.

“Parasmani” (1963) was the first movie to be released where Laxmikant Pyarelal were the independent music directors.Its “hansta hua nooraani chehra ” became the most popular song from this movie, though in reality Laxmikant Pyarelal regarded that song as their poorest effort in the movie.
