Hullo Atuldom
Today’s date (10 cctober 2020) is rather unique. Fellow ASAD follower Satyajitji, from down-under, pointed it out. 10102020- “never before, never again” was the reaction to that from another regular follower of the blog. Of course it is a “unique arrangement of the numbers that form the date which is appreciated by our brain”. A true statement by our in-house encyclopaedia.
Today’s post is a rather difficult one too. Never before have I faced such a dilemma. It is a case of too many options. I sifted through a whole lot of songs before I made a choice.

10/10/2020 – 66th birthday of Rekha
——————————————————-
Today it is the birthday of Rekha, full name Bhanurekha Ganeshan. Some do refer to her as indian “Greta Garbo” for being elusive. However in this era of snooping social media and swooping television media, if someone of her status and lifetime experiences, wants to be a recluse, thumbs up to her. In her time she has been called “Jane Fonda” of India as well for her efforts to resurrect herself as the style icon of the industry. She is remembered for her many memorable characters enacted on the screen.

Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part II: 1948-1949
——————————————————————————————
This series was started last Monday (28 September 2020), which was Lata Mangeshkar’s 91st birthday. The series has the ambitious aim of providing statistics of all HFM songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar-Year by year.
The first part of the series covered Lata Maneshkar HFM songs of 1947 and 1948. That was easy, seeing that the total number of HFM songs sung by her in these two years added upto just nine songs.
1948 saw a change in fortune for her. This time she got to sing a decent number of songs from a decent number of movies.

In this article, I am discussing a classical dancer for whom the dancing was her passion, be it in the films or on stages. Her face was familiar to me as I had watched some of her films long back. But at that time, I did not evince interest in knowing her name. It was only after I joined the Blog in 2011 that I came to know her identity through none other than our own Prakashchandra ji, the veteran of our Blog in identifying the lesser known film artists with a high success rate. The name of the dancer is Rani.

Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part I: 1946-1947
Today (28 september 2020) is the 91st birthday of Swar Samragyi Lata Mangeshkar (DoB 28 September 1929). We as part of HFM lovers extend her a very happy birthday and wish her many happy returns of the day.
She has been the most influential singer of HFM (and by extension all Indian film music).
A lot has been written on her career and her songs and her life. Instead of joining that race and repeating the already much repeated facts about her, I would take this occasion to start my discussion of her HF songs yearwise, right from the beginning. So one can see that it is going to be a long series, which may have started on her birthday and it will continue on and on, and each post will discuss one year. She has been around for more than six decades. It will take me at least 40 posts, may be more to discuss her songs over the years. I plan to publish one article every week. At this rate, this series could take upto one year. But then what is one year for this blog which is going on for more than 12 years !

“Man Pasand” (1980 – censored on 26-6-1980 and released on 11-7-1980) was among the first few movies whose music cassette was purchased by my father along with “Yaarana” when they hit the market. And since then I am a huge fan of their songs. I Know almost all of them by heart.
This was a movie produced by Amit Khanna and directed by Basu Chatterji. Rajesh Roshan was the music director and Amit Khanna himself wrote the lyrics. The movie itself was inspired by the famous stage play by George Bernard Shaw – ‘Pygmalion’ (first published in 1913), and also on the hugely popular iconic film ‘My Fair Lady’ (1964 – Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn). The movie stars Dev Anand, Tina Munim, Girish Karnad, Simple Kapadia, Leela Mishra, Jalal Agha (appears as a guest in the song with this post), Piloo Wadia and Mehmood.
