“Nayaa Kaanoon” (1965) was a movie starring an over the hill Bharat Bhushan with Vyjyanti Mala. This movie was a box office disasater.
As a result, the songs of this movie suffered. So much so that few people are aware of these songs. It is a pity because these songs are so nice to listen to, and they would have done well had the movie done better.

Lata was Madan Mohan’s female singer of choice, but it does not mean that he has not used other female singers in his songs. Curiously enough, Madan Mohan did not use the voice of Lata in the movie called “Bombay Race Course” (1965). The female singers in this movie were Asha Bhonsle and Suman Kalyanpur.

Madan Mohan may often be typedcast in the minds of many music lovers as a composer of ghazals, mainly with Lata and to some extent with Rafi. But Madan Mohan was a versatile music director. I have listened to many Madan Mohan songs of other genres as well and I have posted them too.

12 july is the death anniversary of Rajendra Kumar (DOB-20 july 1929-DOD 12 july 1999). Apart from moviegoers of his time, he was a delight to the movie makers too, because his movies tended to be box office hits. In fact, he was nicknamed Jubilee Kumar for this Midas touch.

“Mausam” (1975) is a movie that is known as much for the acting of Sanjeev Kumar and Sharmila Tagore as for its music. Unfortunately Madan Mohan, the music director of the movie was not alive to see the success of this movie. For much of his life, movies embellished by his wonderful songs would bite the dust as the box office, and ironically, the movies released after his death, viz “Mausam” (1975) and “Laila Majnu” (1976) turned out to be hit movies riding on the music of these movies.
