“Buddha mil gaya” was a movie that is not remembered much, but I seem to remember that one of its songs was banned from being played on Akashwani as it was supposed to be too insulting for “buddhas” or something of the sort.

This philosophical song from “Upkaar” was one which Indeewar had written a few years earlier and Anandji ( of Kalyanji Anandji music director duo) liked it so much that he kept the lyrics with him. When a situation arose for this kind of a song in Manoj Kumar’s Upkaar, Kalyanji Anandji were ready with this song.

Kishore Kumar was a versatile artist. There was little he had not done in movies. He has been producer, director, actor, singer, lyricist, music director etc etc. in movies. Though most commonly, he would play actor cum singer in many movies of 1950s and 1960s, before he turned a full time playback singer in late 1960s.

“Waqt” (1965) was the movie that started the fad of lost and found movies which was so eagerly lapped up by Manmohan Desai one decade later. In this movie, there are three sons and the parents and they get separated from each other after an earthquake and reunite only in the last reel. So B R Chopra showed the way as far as lost and found movies were concerned.

“Sholay” was a movie known for its dialogues and for its thrill a minute storyline, but it had some songs too, in case anyone noticed. And these songs too gelled well with the storyline. And come to think of it, Sholay had a dosti song, a holi song, a Helen song, a teasing song- in short, songs of different genres that were considered a must in any masala bollywood movies were very much there in Sholay.
