I became aware of “Puraskaar” (1970) after Memsaab reviewed this movie in her blog. It turns out that the movie is a treasure of great songs. I wonder how I was not aware of this movie when it was released in 1970s, seeing that this movie had music by R D Burman and I, like most music lovers was a big fan of R D Burman’s music.

“Caarvaan” (1971) is one of the first films that I remember having seen on the big screen. And I was then too young to understand the sentiments of sensuality. In later years, when I would revisit this film, on TV and in reruns, I would be more mature to appreciate the emotions and passions ensconced in this song. This film was the probably the first film in which Aruna Irani attracted attention as an accomplished character actor with a wholesome meaty role as a gypsy girl, so much in love with a truck driver.

“Abdullah” (1980) was a movie that received quite a bit of publicity during its making, but people lost interest once it was released. I do not know why. This movie never came to my town, which is normally the facte of B grade movies and not a movie which was produced and directed by an A grade Producer like err Sanjay Khan :).

I have mentioned it in the past that Hindi movies and Hindi songs tend to deal with topics that are of interest and relevance to Indian public. Having said that, one finds that there are very few songs on some topics of everyone’s interest. For example, there are very few songs, if any, that deal with the feelings of Indians as voters. 🙂

Here is another “How come this song was not posted earlier !” category of this. This song is from “Mere Jeewan Saathi” (1972). This movie was a Shilpkaar production. It was produced by Vinoh Shah and Harish Shah. Ravi Nagaich was the director and the movie had Rajesh Khanna, Tanuja, Bindu, Rajendranath, Sujit Kumar, Utpal Dutt, Helen, Nazir Hussain, K.N.Singh, Sulochana Latkar, Krishna Kant, Brahmchari, Renu, Sonu, V.D.Puranik, Gurnam, Sabina, Vijay Dewan, Mohan, Arun Bose, Fazloo, Kabir Kumar, Mamaaji etc in it.
