When one speaks about “Saajan”, most people think of the 1989 movie of this name which had some very nice songs composed by Nadeem Shrawan.

I just realised that “aankh”( eyes) played a very important role in the songs created by Madan Mohan. Just name the movie, and chances are there will be a very well known “aankh” song in that Madan Mohan, be it “Anpadh” or “Mera Saaya” or any other movie.

I was aware of movies called “Dushman” featuring K L Saigal in 1938 and Rajesh Khanna in 1971. But it appears that there was a third “Dushman” too which was released in 1957 and it had Dev Anand in lead role.

In Bollywood movies, title of the movies are often given in Hindi or English, and that was especially true for very old movies of say K L Saigal vintage.

In 1950s and 1960s, there tended to be movies titled after important landmarks. For example, “Lal Quila” “Gateway of India” etc. These movies tended to go into oblivion soon after their release.

Here is a song which I remember listening to in my younger days, though I never could find out those days which movie this song was from. That is how it was with loudspeaker songs those days. Unlike radio songs, they would not announce the name of the movie before playing such songs. 😉
