Very little is known about music director Ram Laxman. Initially there were two of them, viz Ram Kadam and Vijay Patil who composed music as Ram Laxman. Ram Kadam died in 1976. But Vijay Patil continued to compose music as Ram Laxman. In fact, most well known movies with music by Ram Laxman came after 1976 when it was Vijay Patil alone composing music as Ram Laxman. Movies like “Maine Pyaar Kiya” (1989) and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”(1994) are the compositions of Ram Laxman.

During those days, we fortunately still had the kind of music in some movies that we had grown up to love all these decades. These were off beat movies, smaller budget movies, family values movies- in brief “non mainstream movies”.

I love watching old movies (pre-1980, just to clarify!) and of late I’ve been watching a whole lot of them. Kala Pani, Kala Bazar, Kashmakash, Chhote Sarkar, Pagla Kahin Ka, Kasauti, Ma Beta, Waqt, Ek Bechara, Cobra Girl, Swayamvar, Raja Aur Runk, Jeene Ki Raah are just some of the movies I watched in January this year.
