Most of the time we like to listen to songs that are of high quality- viz evergreen song, songs touching our hearts etc.
Then there are some songs that are created without such lofty ideals in mind. These songs are just the need of the story- they serve the need of the story and are forgotten.
Here is one such song. The girl (Hema Malini) is unhappy with the boy (Dharamendra ) and wants to “teach” him a lesson by flirting with another person and thus making Dharamendra jealous.

Bappi Lahiri is widely held responsible for the deterioration in the quality of Bollywood music in 1980s. But that is not now how he started his career. He had begun with some nice music in Zakhmee and Chalte Chalte. He was getting nowhere with good music, but when he gave chaalu music, he was instantly successful, and that made him cynical enough to decide that he needed to put crass commercialisation above classy music to forge ahead in his career.
But Bappi Lahiri was capable of giving good music and he would often surprise fans by coming up with great music in the midst of shrill and plagiarised disco songs.

The lyrics would really move you, in case you get the context of the song. And one need not know the story line to get the context. Just look at the video. The actors Rajesh Khanna and Rekha, as well as the singers Kishore and Lata make the context so clear that I need not fill in the background details. Very powerful emotions have been penned in very simple language by Gulshan Bawra. It was one of the last hits of R D Burman before the trend of chaalu songs lashed Bollywood like a thunderstorm.

Simple plain words can sometimes create good lyrics. And Gulzar was one lyricist who could create magical lyrics out of simple words, and here is a wonderful example of his lyrical wizardry. Follow the lyrics carefully, and one notices how well they express the feelings of joy that the lady is experiencing.
Lata has sung this song with some passion, and R D Burman has suitably tempered the exuberance of his music.

It is a movie that has long been forgotten , but this movie was lit up by this one awesome comedy song sung and performed on the screen by the one and only Kishore Kumar. It is a tremendous comedy song written by that lesser known lyricist Qamar Jalalabadi and composed so well by Kalyanji Anandji. Kishore Kumar has sung and acted with characteristic exuberance in this song.
It is my privilege to present this hidden gem that deserves to be ranked as one of the unforgettable comedy songs from Kishore Kumar. Kishore Kumar, the genius is at his best here while singing as well as acting. This song, though largely forgotten now was ranked 4th in 1971 Binaca geetmala finals. It was that popular in its days.

This was a song from a run of the mill movie starring Shashi Kapoor and Mumtaz. But before one knew, this song caught the imagination of the whole nation and the subcontinent.
Though this is supposed to be a light hearted wedding song, it has become much more than that. With suitable modification, it is used by people in the subcontinent for many occasions.

Kishore Kumar was a master of comedy songs, but he could sing sad songs equally wonderfully, as we have seen earlier. Here we see yet another quality of Kishore Kumar’s singing. He could sing nostalgic songs just as remarkably. Laxmikant Pyarelal are at their versatile best in this song.
The fact that this song uses a train in the lyrics as well as in the picturisation makes listening and watching this song a wonderful experience.

Kishore Kumar, Majrooh Sultanpuri and R D Burman excel in this song belonging to an eminently forgettable movie. Movie may be forgettable, but the song is such a nice one that you can listen to it many times over, without feeling bored, if you have the taste for such songs.

This song is different from the usual songs that I have so far presented in this blog. For once, it is the first female solo song in this blog. But more than that, it is different in the sense that its popularity with retrospective effect among music lovers defies explanation.
