Recenly I have stumbled upon the songs of “Dulhan”(1958) and this movie has some very interesting songs in it.
Here is the first of these songs from “Dulhan” (1958). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Nanda, who in this song is telling her Bhabhi (Nirupa Roy) about what she is looking for in her prospective groom.
S H Bihari is the lyricist and Ravi is the music director of this song.

Song-Jiyaa sharmaaye nazar jhuki jaaye (Dulhan) (1958) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-Ravi
Lyrics
jiyaa sharmaaye
nazar jhuki jaaye
bhabhi
kaise kahoon main dil ki baat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
jiyaa sharmaaye
nazar jhuki jaaye
bhabhi
kaise kahoon main dil ki baat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
suit boot mein aisa laage
jaise ho koi afsar
suit boot mein aisa laage
jaise ho koi afsar
bade bade gunwaan bhi kaaten
uske aake chakkar
jo bhi chakkar mein nahin aaye
khaaye usase maar
jo bhi chakkar mein nahin aaye
khaaye usase maar
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
naa maangoon main mahal dumahle
na rani ka taaj
agar pati ka pyaar mile to
chalenge dooje kaaj
Seeta bankar rahoongi main bhi
apne Ram ke dhaam
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
baandh ke sehraa aaye wo
main dulhan ban sharmaaun
chhod ke baabul ki nagri main
des piyaa ke jaaun
sakhi main
des piyaa ke jaaun
jag roothe ho
roothaa aisaa (?)
aisaa hogaa raat (?)
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
jiyaa sharmaaye
nazar jhuki jaaye
bhabhi
kaise kahoon main dil ki baat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat
piyaa ho jaise chanda poonam ki raat

I just watched this movie, and an interesting thing about this song which is LOVELY, and Nanda is so cute—she is forced to marry Jeevan after this :(—is that Bela Bose is in the background dancing as one of her sahelis. It is so far the earliest film I’ve seen Bela in 🙂

After watching Bela Bose in a few dances in the Bela Bose DVD,now I feel somewhat confident of identifying her, through her nose. I have noticed that her nose is quite distinctive.

Yes, and her cheekbones.
