During the period from 1940s to 1960s, we often had titles of Hindi movies based on Railways. Thus we had movies titled “Station Master” (1942), ” Rail Ka Dibba” (1953), “Railway Platform” (1955) , “The Train” (1970) etc. Much later in 1980s, we had a few more Railway based titles, viz “The Burning Train” (1980) and “Coolie” (1983).

“Ham Bhi Insaan Hain” (1959) is an obscure movie by now. This movie was produced by V A K Productions. R Majumdar was the director. The sar cast included names like Abhi Bhattacharya, Lata Sinha, Anil Kumar, Kumar, Dhumal,Chaman Puri, Samar Roy, Lalita Kumari etc. Most names in the cast ring no bells. In other words, this movie was a B grade movie.

What an endearing song, and what a mellifluous voice. Such a wonderful gem of a song, from the first film for which Hansraj Behl composed the music. The film is ‘Pujari’ from 1946. This was the debut year for Hansraj Behl, and 3 films containing his compositions were released that year. As per records, this film is he first one for which he started composing.

Often repeated, and I will repeat yet once again. The B/C grade films of yesteryears may not have had the fortune or resources to get noticed by the audience and critics, and yet, as one digs into these categories of films for music, invariably one comes up with A grade gems with absolutely A grade music and lyrics. So many composers have had their work relegated to obscurity, just because the films they composed for did not become commercial success stories.
