“Khushboo” (1975) was based on a Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay story called “Pandit moshai”. This movie was produced under the banner of Tirupati Pictures Combine. Prasann Kapoor was the producer and Gulzar directed the movie. Songs by Non Singers
This is the 10th and the last song of the series- SONGS BY NON SINGERS.
For me it has been a very hectic fortnight involving a very busy schedule. Luckily, I was able to locate all the songs’ video and Audio on You Tube but not without the customary hiccups.
Collecting authentic information about old, fogotten artists was also very challenging. To get atleast 10 songs, I dug out about 30 songs from films of 30s to 70s.

When I began to follow movies in my younger days then at that time Rajesh Khanna was everyone’s favourite actor. Actors of the previous generation, viz Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand were considered as passe, especially by someone like me. I regarded Dev Anand as an old man trying to act as a youngster in his movies instead of acting in roles befitting his age.

I had no much idea about Jahanara Kajjan except that I was aware of a couple of her classical raag based songs in the film ‘Bharathari’ (1944). Very recently, I came across one more of her song ‘tumre darshan ka nainaa taras gaye ho’ from the film PRARTHANAA (1943). I heard this song for the first time and instantly liked it. The song is rendered in dadra style (crisp version of thumri ) based on raag Gaur-Malhar but with typical filmy musical orchestration of early 40s.
