So here I am again with another Jodi.

This Jodi gave us such a lovely time at the movies that our generation must be blessed to have been there then. And by a Jodi it need not necessarily mean a girl and a boy. It could be two girls as in Shabana Azmi –Rekha or Rekha- Moushmi Chaterjee or Shabana Azmi – Neetu Singh. Oh the list is endless or is there a definite number to such Jodis. There are also jodis of Males like Sanjeev Kumar- Shatrughan Sinha, Amitabh with Vinod Khanna as well as Mehra. Amitabh Bachchan must be one of the few actors who jelled with any hero he worked with viz. Shashi Kapoor, Dharamendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, and with the later generation as well be it Govinda, Akshay Kumar, ShahRukh Khan , Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt etc. Ab in saari jodiyon ki baat hi kuch aur hai! Today (13 november 2012) is Deewaali, easily India’s biggest festival and a festival which also happens to be the time when Indians do their major shoppings of the year because this is supposed to be the most auspicious occasion for such activities. This festival in fact is celebrated as Laxmi Puja, Laxmi being the goddess of wealth and the consort of Vishnu, one of the three major Gods. A few days back on the occasion of Amitabh and Rekha’s birthday I spoke of how famous or popular or well received their pairing was in Bollywood movies. There were other such equally popular jodis. Viz. Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh, Vinod Mehra- Moushmi Chaterjee, Rajesh Khanna with Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna with Mumtaz, Rajesh Khanna with Asha Parekh etc in my growing up years. Actually I thought that Jaya Bhaduri never made a geat pair on screen with Amitabh, I liked her more with Sanjeev Kumar or even Jeetendra. There were popular pairing in the previous generation of stars too. But I think we have more knowledgeable people in our group to list them. Now what made a pairing popular was how well they looked together or how had their movie fared at the box office or how much recall value their songs had.

When I was a pre teen kid during late 1960s and early 1970s, I once read a funny poem in the Hindi magazine “Parag”. It went
Deewaaron pe lagi huyi thhi filmy posteron ki qataar
“Hum Hindustani”, “Badtameez”, Aawaara”, “Junglee”, “Jaanwar” aur “Ganwaar” !
