This song from “Aulaad” is a long standing farmaish of Raja, but all these days I had been hampered from posting it because its video is not available. After searching for its video and drawing a blank, I took its audio clip and I decided to present this song with the picture of Chitragupta, the music director of this movie and indeed of this song.

I have mentioned it earlier that “Mera Saaya” was full of outstanding Lata-Madan Mohan songs that have gone on to become immortal evergreen songs. But pray which of “Mera Saaya” songs became the most popular those days? It was none of these Lata songs, or even the Rafi one.

O P Nayyar and Asha Bhonsle had forged a long professional relation for 15 years which had turned personal as well. The two had continued an affair that lasted just as long. Towards the early years of 1970s, when O P Nayyar was no longer the top music director of Bollywood and his music was losing its hold over the public, his personal relationship with Asha Bhonsle was on the rocks as well. The two finally split in 1972. Prior to that, they had recorded this song “Chain se humko kabhi aapne jeene na diyaa”. Muqaabla hamse na karo

This song pits Vyjyantimala, a professionally trained classical dancer ( arguably the best ever female classical dancer in Bollywood history- notwithstanding Padmini, Hema Malini,Jayaprada, Meenakshi Sheshadri etc) with Helen, the best known cabaret dancer in Bollywood movies. And Shammi Kapoor has the envious task of acting as the adjudicator.

Ek thi ladki

This is a song from “Gumrah”, a 1963 movie showing Mala Sinha at her sacrificing best. In this movie, the kids of her sister ask her to tell a story, and she sings this song “ek thi ladki” (happy version) which she claims to be the story of one of her friends, but as the audience guess correctly, is her own story. This serves as a lullaby and the kids go to sleep peacefully.
