“The Great Gambler”(1979) was directed by Shakti Samanta for C V K Shastri Productions, Bombay. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan (double role), Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Utpal Dutt, Ifthikhar, Madan Puri, Om Shivpuri, Sujit Kumar, Helen, Roopesh Kumar, Jagdish Raj, Keshav Rana, Madhu, Prem Sagar, Ranjeet Sood, Rajan Kapoor etc in it.

An important date today – 21st October. It is the birth date of two very dear performers who have held the center stage for sustained periods, enthralling many generations of filmgoers and music lovers – Shammi Kapoor and Helen. “Dekhi Teri Bambai” (1961) was an obscure (and I suspect badly delayed) movie. This Seetal Movies production was directed by Kailash Bhandari. This movie had Daljeet, Purnima, Sheikh, Radhika, Shammi etc in it.

In March last year, when Atul ji had posted the wonderful melody “Apne Khayaalon Ko Samjha Deejiye. . .”, from the 1955 film ‘Marine Drive’, I was instantly bowled over by this stunning sound that I had then heard for the first time. And it went on to reinforce, the lofty stature of N Dutta, the music director of this film, as one of the most talented composers from the 50s and 60s.
