Today’s song is from a controversial film, released at the end of the 1940’s decade – Hanste Aansoo-1950.
First of all the title itself seems to contain contrasting emotions. One smiles when he is happy and one has tears when he is hurt or sad. I feel we get tears when we are sad or hurt of course, but even when a person is too happy he gets tears in his eyes. For example, when a child is away for many years, the mother feels sad and weeps in his memory. But when he comes back after many years and hugs his mother, she gets tears at that time also, with happiness !

Continuing my series of Kamsune/Ansune of Asha Bhosle, I present to you the 5th song of this series which is a thirakta machalta geet of Asha Ji from the 1968 movie Jung Aur Aman.
The song is ”Nigahon Mein Mohabbat Ka” penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by the extremely talented but unsuccessful G S Kohli, the assistant to master composer OP Nayyar for a long time. And therefore, many a times when you hear a song composed by Kohli, you get a feeling that you have heard a similar sounding song. That possibly is a song composed by his Guru.

‘Jaadoo Nagri’ (1961) was produced by Ram Dayal under the banner of Mukul Pictures and was directed by Radhakant. Cast included Ranjan, Vijaya Chowdhary, Ramayan Tiwari, Helen, Majnu, Kammo, Shammi, Mridula, Tuntun etc. The VCD of the film is available online but quality of both the video and audio is not good. A feature of this ‘black and white’ film is that all the songs have been picturised in colour.

“Paayal Ki Jhankaar” (1980) was a Rajshri Productions presentation, which was directed by Satyen Bose. It had a cast of Komal Mahuwakar (before this we had seen her in ‘Dream Girl’ as Baby Komal), Alankar (first role where he was not credited as Master Alankar), Surinder Kaur (I think this was her debut), Arun Kumar, Shail Chaturvedi, C.S. Dubey, Sudha Shivpuri, and a few more known & unknown faces who comprise the brigade of character artists in Hindi films.

Today’s song is from the film Suhagan-1954.
The film was a remake of a Marathi film, “Suwasini”-1953. It was produced by Datta Dharmadhikari for his own banner Alhad Chitra, Poona. (Alhad was his son’s name). The film was a Hit in Marathi, so a Hindi remake was made. It was directed by Marathi’s famous and successful director Anant Mane. Of course, when he directed this film, he was an assistant to Datta Dharmadhikari, but very soon he became a big name in Marathi.

Spy thriller as a genre of films has rarely been attempted during the first three decades of Hindi talkie films. The huge success of Eon Productions’ spy thriller films of James Bond series like ‘Dr. No.’ (1962), ‘From Russia With Love’ (1963), ‘Goldfinger’ (1964) etc when they were released in India prompted the Hindi film producers to make the films in this genre in the 1960s. The Indo-China war of 1962 and Indi-Pak war of 1965 created favourable situations for spy thriller films. Some of the Hindi films which were made especially during the second half of 1960s were ‘Farz’ (1967), ‘Spy in Goa’ (1967), ‘Spy in Rome’ (1968), ‘Golden Eyes Secret Agent 077’ (1968),’CID Agent 302’ (1968), ‘Aankhen’ (1968), ’Ham Saaya’ (1968), ‘Shatranj’ (1969) etc.

Today’s song is from the film Bandish-1955.
The film was directed by Satyen Bose and the music was by Hemant Kumar, with his assistant Ravi Shankar Sharma- or simply Ravi. This was Ravi’s last film as an assistant to Hemant Kumar. He was simultaneously giving music to film Vachan -1955, as an independent Music Director. His career grew successfully but he never forgot the help Hemant Kumar gave to him in his early years of film music. Till Hemant Kumar was connected with Hindi films, Ravi used him for songs in his films, wherever it was suitable. Hemant Kumar’s last Hindi film came in 1979 (Love in Canada) and Ravi lasted till 2000 (Ek alag Mausam).
