‘Sholay-1975’ was telecast on a ‘movie channel’ as many as three times between the second and fourth week of March this year. On the first occasion (12th March) I had gone to my Uncle’s place and I watched it there.
(And from there I also sent message on the ‘whattsapp group’ so the ‘Sholay fans’ in the group could watch it 🙂 )

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 36

DIL KI BAAT (1944) is an obscure film that I came to know about only after I got hold of the mp3 clip of a song from the film. A search on google revealed that the film was produced under the banner of Atre Pictures owned by Prahlad Keshav Atre, fondly known as Acharya Atre, one of the well-known writer-journalist, playwrite, poet, humourist in Marathi language. The star cast included Ishwarlal, Vanmala, Dixit, Durga Khote, Leela Sawant, Jairam Desai, Balwant etc.

Rakesh Roshan, a struggling actor of his time turned a producer mainly because he was struggling to get roles in movies of other producers. The first movie of his production house called Filmkraft was “Aapke Deewaane”(1979). This movie flopped at the box office and that plunged Rakesh Roshan into serious financial troubles. He took great cares while proucing his next movie. He took a tried and tested story that had tasted box office success in another language and he sought to replicate that success in Hindi. The original movie was “Subhodayam”(1980), a Telugu movie which was remade into Hindi as “Kaamchor”(1982). K Vishwanath, who directed the Telugu original, directed the Hindi remake as well.
