There are instances of Hindi film artists, especially of the 30s to 50s who rose to great heights in their filmy career but died as paupers and penniless. For instance, Chandramohan, the most handsome actor of his time who captivated the audience with his acting prowess (and also with his eyes) in films like ‘Amritmanthan’ (1934), ‘Pukar’ (1941), ‘Roti’ (1942), ‘Humaayun’ (1945) and ‘Shaheed’ (1948) died in 1949 in acute poverty at a young age of 44. The main cast included Geeta Bali and Amarnath in the lead roles with Vijaylaxmi, Jaswant, Leela Mishra, Rashid Khan etc in the supporting roles. There are 8 songs in the film written by Kaifi Azmi (7) and Vishwamitra Adil (1) which were set to music by S D Batish. Incidentally, the film’s director C L Dheer was the father of TV and film actor Pankaj Dheer (‘Karna’ of Mahabharat) and the grandfather of film actor Nikitin Dheer who has acted in films like ‘Jodha Akbar’ (2008) and ‘Chennai Express’ (2013).

Today is the Death Anniversary of DEV ANAND.

He was one of those who can never be forgotten. He was the most handsome of the three great heroes of India, Raj, Dilip and Dev. Raj and Dilip grew old, did grandpa’s roles and we digested them. But even the thought of seeing Dev Anand as an old Grandfather was highly disturbing. He forever, remained the evergreen chocolate Hero for people of his generation.
