Today’s song is from a social film “Pyaas”-1941.

Films with the title “Pyaas” were made in 1941, 1968 and 1982. Interestingly, there were 45 films having the word ‘ Pyas/Pyasa/Pyasi’ in its title as the first word. I always advocate that when a film is mentioned, for whatever reason, it is absolutely necessary that its year is also mentioned along with the title of the film. In Hindi films, it is a common phenomenon that many films with similar titles are produced in different years. I have quoted many times that a film titled ” Insaf” was produced 7 times in different years. Like the ‘ Same Name Confusion ‘ of film actors, a film itself can be a victim of ‘Same Title Confusion’ if the specific year is not mentioned.

Today’s song is from the filmAkash Pari-1958.

It is an Universal phenomenon that when men and Women work together daily for quite some time, there are cases in which some pairs fall in love and get married. It is more frequent in industries like Film Industry where the work in films brings them closer physically too. In general, unmarried girls joined films in earlier times. Of course, there were cases when even married women had joined films Examples are, Leela Chitnis, Shobhana Samarth, leela Mishra, Meenakshi Shirodkar, Neena etc.

Today’s song is from a “special film”- Akashpari-1958.

I have called this film a ‘Special film’ for not so honorable reasons. This film was produced by S.P.Srivastav and M.S.Geete. It was directed by Mohan Sinha (grandfather of actress Vidya Sinha). The cast of the film consisted of Kusum Pradhan, Mahipal, Ram Singh, Maruti, Kamal (they were husband and wife in real life), Krishnakumari and many others.

Today’s song is from the film Aabshar-1953.

For a long time, I just wondered as to what was the meaning of this word Aabshar. Then I looked into an Urdu-English dictionary and found out that it means’ Waterfall’ or “things coming all at a time” or ‘a Cascade’. Obviously, it was about the film’s story. This was a social film. The story revolved around a good looking simple village girl-Nimmi and a young, rich, city educated man Rajkumar, who falls in love with her during one of his visits to his hometown. The brother of the girl-Tiwari, is against this affair as he has already consented to the love of his friend for his sister. However Nimmi hates him. To add to all this, there is a murder in the village, for which the Hero is held responsible. Of course, all is well, at the end of the movie the real culprit is found to be the girl’s brother only. All is well, before the words ‘ The End ” appear on the screen, to the relief of the audience.
