I am poor in remembering important dates, as I have reiterated many a times. And with passage of time, I am actually becoming more absent minded. We already have our anniversary page, which is consulted by many music lovers, but I have not consulted it myself for quite some time. So, I come to know about important music related dates from others, who themselves may have come to know about these dates from our anniversary page ! 🙂
Today morning, I came to know that it is Mukesh’s birth anniversary. And I also noticed that as many as two Mukesh songs were covered yesterday (21 july 2021) and that took the tally of Mukesh songs in the blog to 799 !
So fate had ordained that Mukesh would complete his 800th song in the blog on his birth anniversary !

Hullo Atuldom
I have been wanting to send this song for almost a week or ten days now. I had first thought of 12th July which was the death anniversary of Jubilee Kumar a.k.a Rajendra Kumar. But, I was unable to, due to various reasons.
Then, yesterday, 20th July the birth anniversary of Rajendra Kumar- missed that too. Why? I was too busy attending (online) birthday parties. And reading all the blog-birthday posts. That simple.
But today is another opportunity to present this song to the blog-followers. Anand Bakshi – the lyricist- has his birth anniversary today. Would have been 91.

The tale of two brothers – Hafiz Khan and Aziz Khan, sons of the Ustad Waheed Khan of Etawaha Gharana is not only saddening but also contrasting in the end. After a promising start in Hindi films as a playback singer and the music director in the 1940s, Hafiz Khan died in 1972 in extreme poverty. Aziz Khan, on the other hand, after a brief stint with Hindi film industry as a music director, reverted to playing Sitar and trained his son, Ustad Parvez Khan who is now an internationally well-known Sitar player.

I came across this song very recently on ‘Vividh Bharti’. I liked this song on the very first instance when I listened to it. And as usual thereafter I checked it on the blog. In Hindi film industry, the experiences of lyricists turning producer/director have not been generally good barring very few exceptions like P L Santoshi and Gulzar. Dr. Safdar Aah Sitapuri, after successfully writing lyrics for 25 films during 1939-1945, turned director with ‘Bhook’ (1946). The film flopped at the box office. With this, he reverted to song writing until 1954 when he directed ‘Maan’ (1954). This film also flopped. After this, he went back to his teaching profession.

Today’s song is from an unknown film-Lottery-1949. The title of the film is very apt to remind us how success in the film line is often nothing but winning a lottery in your name ! What led to the success of a film was one thing that no one could fathom so far. In my opinion excellent acting, solid story, superb music and a balanced combination of comedy and other emotions are generally behind the success of a film. When one analyses hit films, then at least 2 or 3 factors as I mentioned earlier would be found in them.
