Today’s song is a beautiful Lata song from the film Aan Baan-1956.
The film was a Costume film telling us an age old story about an old dilapidated king, ambitious evil Rajkumar, a Princess in love with the enemy state prince and as expected a Happy end confirming that ” Good prevails over the Bad”. This type of childish stories had slowly failed to entertain the audience, who looked for some fresh different stories set in the current social scene.

Today’s song is from an obscure film called ‘Room No. 17’ from 1961.
This film is categorized as a ‘social’ film in the HFGK. I wonder on what basis it can be called a ‘social’ film. What I understand by ‘social’ category is when the film revolves around a family problem or a social custom. If not that, then at least the film should show a relationship crisis or an age old social evil or even a simple family dispute. But this film is nothing like this. The film story has 4 murders, 2 accidents, kidnapping, police encounter and multiple attacks by criminals. Embedded in all this there is a love story and a murder mystery. In my opinion, the film should have been classified either as a stunt/action film or a crime/mystery film.

Today’s song is a special song from the film ‘Captain India’ (1960).
Our regular readers may recall that just a few days ago, within this month, 2 songs having the same mukhda with different lyrics were posted on this Blog. The mukhda was “Nacho, Nacho, Nacho”. The first song to appear was from the dubbed film – ‘RRR’ (2022), which was posted and discussed superbly by our friend Gajendra Khanna ji on 3-4-2023. The second song with the same mukhda was from the film ‘Gogola’ (1966) and was posted and discussed by me on 17-4-2023.

Today’s song is from the film Do Dulhe-1955.
This film was made by United Film Arts, Bombay, jointly with Gemini Pictures, Madras. The entire film was shot completely in the Gemini Studios, Madras, because this Hindi film was a remake of a Popular Tamil Hit film ” Manam Pola Mangalyam “-1953. A remarkable thing about this film was that it was the first film of Gemini Ganesan ( real name Ramasamy Ganesan), one of the 3 biggest stars of Tamil films ( the other two being M G Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan) and actress Savitri (real name Nissankara Savitri) who was an actress, Playback singer, Director and Producer.

Today’s song is from a film called Gun Fight aka Bandookbaaz-1960. The film makes a Debut on this Blog.
Funniest part is that the HFGK describes it as a ” Costume film”. Generally, a Costume film is a film in which you see a King, Queen, Vazier or some Historical figures wearing odd, shining and elaborate dresses and who live in big palaces with hundreds of servants who come running after a clap ( a call bell provided to all by God !) of hands. This film is nothing of this sort. All the characters in this film wear normal clothes, live in ordinary houses and lead routine lives. I have seen this film, in the times when such films were in the dying stages. The cast of the film consists of names usually found in a C grade stunt film… Niloufer, Anjum, Moti (Dog), Baagla, Funny Walker, Maqbool, Bilali, Premi, Mohd. Agha, Shaukat, Sharan Asi, Moosa, Mohd. Sandow etc. etc. But it was not a stunt film either.

Today’s song is from a stunt film Gogola-1966.
The date was 28-8-2017. I received an EMail from an unknown person, as follows….
Kelly Robinson
Hi—
I’ve been told that you are an expert in Hindi cinema. I’m writing a book on lost horror films, and one of my chapters is on the film Gogola, which seems to be lost.
It is very difficult to find information on this film in English, so I was hoping you might be able to tell me about it. Any information at all is helpful. I’m also curious to know if it was the first Hindi film with a giant monster. Do you know if there were other similar films that preceded it?
Thank you very much for your help. I will be certain to credit you in the book with any information you can provide.
Kelly Robinson
I was surprised. First of all, I tried to find out who this person was. From the internet I learnt that Kelly Robinson was an Award winning film writer and researcher from the USA. He was associated with various Magazines as author, Radio, TV and Hollywood etc.
