Now, none of the regulars can say they have not heard this song. In a film that boasts of more than one song that competes for the title of the best song in the film, this song surely is one of the best songs in this film. Wow – that sure is saying something for the quality of songs of this film. In 1962, music director Ravi has been active as an independent music director for about seven years now, and he already has about 30 films behind him, that he has composed for. His films include such notable hits as ‘Ek Saal’ (1957), ‘Dilli Ka Thug’ (1958), ‘Ghar Sansaar’ (1958), ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chaand’ (1960), ‘Ghunghat’ (1960), ‘Gharaana’ (1961), ‘Modern Girl’ (1961), ‘Bombay Ka Chor’ (1962) and many more. And then in 1962, out comes this Shammi Kapoor, Shakila, Helen starrer called ‘China Town’ – and the popular response is “Baar Baar Dekho, Hazaar Baar Dekho”. Oh yes, the songs of this film – one just does not feel done with them, no matter how many times you have heard them.

Hullo Atulwaasis

I know many followers of this blog are also fans of cricket. I am sure many have their favourite cricket commentators. I will not say Sunil Gavaskar is my favourite commentator but yes, I remember many points that he has made over the years in his commentary. Specially in the period when he had just taken to commentary after his stint as a successful cricketer. This is a point he has made regularly, it can be taken as his advice to young cricketers. He has said and I quote: “always try to reach your milestone run of 50 or 100 with a four or two, never a single.”

Missing Films of 1960s – 36
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Aisa to hota hi hai. The name of the film sometimes is not so interesting; it seems to automatically convey a B/C grade stunt cum familiar crime and punishment fare. And so we tend to pass over such names in our search of favorites. But as always, unfailingly, it is such films that carry some of the best music that we have heard. Plus, as I realized while checking out this film, the music director is OP Nayyar. The year is 1966, and OPN is quite much in the running as one of the top music directors in the industry. And the film that I am un-packaging on this blog for the first time – it is ‘Love And Murder’.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

September 2, 2017. The lady who made the fringe-cut hair style popular would have been 76. Yes, I am talking of Sadhana and that hair style called “sadhana cut”. I am sure every girl of the 1960s and 70s would have sported the style at least once in her lifetime. Apparently this look was inspired from the British actress Audrey Hepburn (some more on this later).

A few days back, Sudhir Jee was acting strange and was insisting on posting all the articles in the blog, including even my writeps, and in addition, he was asking me to go slow on my writeups. As a result, I found myself with so much time at my disposal that I finally managed to write a long article describing my meeting with Lucknow based regulars. I did not intend to send any song lyrics with the writeup, thinking that Sudhir Ji would take care of that too. But no, Sudhir ji wanted me to send a song link with the writeup as well.

To this day, the name of Ranu Mukherji is associated with the iconic children’s song, Naani teri morni ko mor le gaye (Maasoom)(1960) . Most people, including I myself, wonder if this was the only song that she sang in Hindi movies.
