The star cast consisted of some big names of Bangla movies, viz Uttam Kumar, Anil Chatterjee, Manik Dutt,Utpal Dutt etc. Even Sharmila Tagore, the leading lady of this movie was from Bangla background.

“Aankhon Hi Aankhon Mein Ishaaraa Ho Gayaa”, this lovely melody remains etched in my heart, as my first introduction to a dashing young Dev Anand, as seen on a Doordarshan screening of the film CID (1956). Time would be sometimes early seventies, and as a pre teen kid I was in the home of a friend (we did not have a TV of our own), religiously attending the Sunday film session, that was the once a week diet of film viewing generally allowed to us kids.

This movie was based on a novel by Ashutosh Mukherjee. This movie was a big budget movie starring the then superstar Amitabh Bachchan too. Mera jeewan kuchh kaam na aayaa

In 1970s, there were two title songs beginning with the words ‘Mera Jeewan’. One of the songs was ‘Mera Jeewan Kora Kaagaz…’ from “Kora Kaagaz”(1974). Another song was ‘Mera jeewan kuchh kaam na aaya..’ from “Mera Jeewan”(1976).

Just saw the response from Peevesie’s Mom for the song Ital ke ghal mein teetal) from “Bahuraani” (1963) . And I remembered, the film Jyoti (1981) is almost a frame to frame remake of the film Bahurani (1963), with Jeetendra playing the role played by Guru Dutt, Hema Malini that of Mala Sinha, Vijendra Ghatge that of Feroze Khan, Shashikala that of Lalita Pawar, Ashok Kumar that of Nazir Hussain, and Deven Verma that of Mukri.
