“Pehli Jhalak” (1954) was a remake of a South Indian language movie. Kishore Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala were the lead actors in this Hindi version remake of this movie.

I was not aware of this song from “Kavi” (1954) till today. It is only when a regular reader of this blog (Dr. Rashmikant Vyas) informed me about this song that I have listened to this song for the first time just now. What a lovely song !

Here is a lovely song from a mythological movie called “Veer Bhimsen”. As the name suggests, this movie was from the epic “Mahabharat”, and considering that it was about Bhim, one can guess that Dara Singh must have played the title role. Yes, that is correct. This movie had Dara Singh, Randhawa, Mumtaz, Mahipal, Anita Guha etc in this movie.

“Mughal e Azam” (1960) was a mega block buster in all respects, be it the movie, or its music. There were several songs in this movie and almost all of them have gone on to become evergreen iconic songs.

Mera joota hai Japani

I have posted over 2400 songs in this blog already. I just realised that the iconic song “Mera Joota Hai Japani” is not yet posted. I will not call an oversight. In fact, it is a tribute to the quality and quantity of awesome songs that one can post so many songs and still many more great songs would still be left undiscussed.

“Udan Khatola” (1955) is a movie that had some nice songs in it. As many as three songs from this movie had figured in the list of top 16 songs of the year 1955 in the Binaca geetmala annual list of 1955.

For those who are into trivia, here is an interesting bit of information. Hemant Kumar sang just four songs under the music direction of Shankar Jaikishan. All these songs were sung in 1953 and 1954. One of these songs was in “Shikast” (1953)- “Ham kathputle kaath ke” and another was in “Patita” (1953)-“Yaad kiyaa dil ne kahaan ho tum”. These songs are already posted in this blog.

This song was a popular song during its time. When I listened to it, I thought that R D Burman was the music director. It was only much later that I realised that the music director was not R D Burman , but a newcomer called Bappi Lahiri. Yes, Bappi Lahiri was creating great impression in the minds of music lovers. He had created some nice music in “Zakhmee” (1975), his debut music and then in “Chalte Chalte” (1976).
