Fifteen days and thirty one posts later – that is the amount of days and posts that I missed keeping up with on the blog, with dear Atul ji keeping up with the pace all alone. I have a lot of excuses to give, but no reasons that may be convincing. Just flowing along with certain compulsions and different priorities. But I had to get back in action today. After getting a word from Atul ji about his traveling plans, just to hold on and not allow any more dot days to go by might just be a good accomplishment. So, I am back again, and hopefully should be holding fort for now.

Thoda Sa Dil Laga Ke Dekh. . .
Film – ‘Musafirkhana’ from 1955, she plays the role Mary, the love interest of Frankie (Johnny Walker). Mary’s mother fancies another match for her daughter, and Frankie is contemplating suicide on that account. As it often happens in films, Mary breaks out into a song, trying to lift up Frankie’s dying spirits.
1958 – she plays the role of Nargis, the bosom friend of Sheela (Nutan), in this confused and comic scenario of mixed identities and true love – ‘Aakhiri Daao’. Funny to note that Nargis is her real name. And casting credit lists her assumed name. Always life is so interesting.

The pun reminds me of a friend in college – he was the class jokester, always ready with something startling to put the group into fits of laughter. One day he solemnly announced that after good amount of research he has concluded that Ram (Lord Ram) was a native of Rome. So we asked him how he arrived at this dignified conclusion. He replied – because लिखने वाला लिख गया है – हे रोम रोम में बसने वाले राम. Needless to say, it was the prime joke of that day.
And for this post today, Anand Bakshi has surely started this song on a very punning note :).

Back to hunting in the 1960s once again. ‘Mr Murder’ from 1969 is as rare and obscure as one can think of. This very sweet melody is already published on YouTube, only partially though. I am uploading the more complete version today.
The film ‘Mr Murder’ is produced under the banner of Bundelkhand Films, Bombay and is directed by NA Ansari. The main star cast is listed as Naqi Jahan, Krishan Mehta, Ansari, Chand Usmani, and Rajan Kapoor.

kuchh yaad rahe to sun kar jaa. . .
The nectar tinged fragrance of this voice suffuses through the strings of the heart through so many wonderful renderings. The mind is left amazed by the effortless expressions of the emotions covering the full spectrum of human experience. “Loot Liyo Mann Dheer. . .” is probably the only exclamation that the mind responds with, as it passed through the shower of her musical portrayals.

Today’s song is from the film ‘Kisaan Kanya’ from 1937. This movie is famous for being the first indegenuously made colour film of India, by Ardeshir Irani’s Imperial Film Company. Film pioneer Irani was also the first to make an international co-production, with Italy – the film ‘Nala Damayanti’ – a silent film of 1920. Secondly, and more importantly, he also holds the honour of making and releasing India’s first talkie film ‘Alam Ara’ in 1931. And with film ‘Kisaan Kanya’, he achieved a hat trick of ‘First in India’ credit in film making.

So, minus 1 and plus 1, we still got to the 100th Yippeee film yesterday.
Minus 1 because on 3rd April, Atul ji had announced the Yippeee-ing of the film ‘Razia Sultan’ (1983), after posting its ‘sixth + seventh’ songs together – an announcement that turned out to be incorrect. Avinash ji pointed out that there is still one more song to be posted from this film. With some more leg work and info-search we now have more detailed info about the song list of this film. Ah yes – ‘Hunterwaali’. Seems that just like Tarzan, ‘Hunterwaali’ has been quite a favorite title and theme for film producers in India. The original ‘Hunterwaali’ was released in 1935 – with Fearless Nadia assaying the title role. This was followed in 1943 with a title variation of ‘Hunterwaali Ki Beti’. Then in 1959 came another ‘Hunterwaali’, this time the title role being played by Mehru. In 1972, came a production from the south. The female lead role was played by Jyotilakshmi. In 1978, yes, one more ‘Hunterwaali’ film was released. And guess, the lady playing the title role – it is Bindu.
[Ed Note: Atul ji points out that there is another ‘Hunterwaali’ film right there from the year 1959; the title is ‘Miss Hunterwaali’.]
