Men, they say, are from Mars. I am sure all the lady friends and readers on this blog will readily agree. No doubt when they need favors from their better halves, the pleading, hang-dog look on their faces is really very “maasoom”. But when they are in their own swing, well then the head is in the sky, and the whole creation is tiny and petty in comparison. Or so they say.

In the earlier post today, I had mentioned about the somewhat not-so-well-organized collection that is sitting on my hard drives. There is so much that I still have to explore myself. Even I myself am not fully aware of all the items that are sitting in there. It is an unsavory situation, in case I have to search for something and I do not know whether I will find it there. At other times, it is also a lot of fun, to be able to locate and bring out items that I remember or that other friends have requested for. (Please do not think I am trying to impress that my collection is exhaustive. It is not. 😉 )

The Voice of Mukesh #58

Yes, I return to 1948 again today. A song that has been pending, for want of being located. And now I have it. The film is ‘Chaand Sitaare’. And lo, what a gem of a song has been discovered. Every time such a thing happens, i.e. coming across an unheard and a very obscure gem, there is such a feeling of exhilaration on the discovery. And also, the reassurance that there still are many such songs waiting out there in what we call the ocean of Hindi film music, all waiting for someone to pick them up and bring up to the surface and to the attention of the listeners. Oh yes, I am sure many people with a long association with this love of Hindi film music would have heard of this and other such lost gems. But getting to it and finding out that it is now available online, gives such a sense of accomplishment.
