#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————————–———-
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 141 # Preet Ki Dori-1971 #

————————————————————

‘Preet Ki Dori’ is  one of the lesser known films of 1971. It probably did not do well at the box office, maybe that is why the film and its music is not remembered. However it does have some very good songs.

The film was produced by Suraj Prakash Seth under the banner of KS Pictures, Bombay and presented by Krishna Kumari. It was directed by Satish Kumar. Story, dialogues and screenplay of this movie was written by R Priyadarshi. The film was edited by Kamlakar. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 25.09.1971.

The star cast for the film includs Tanuja, Ajay Sahni (Parikshit Sahni), Bindu, Nazeer Hussain, Jeevan, Lalita Pawar, Asit Sen, Roopesh Kumar, Mohan Choti, Tuntun, Kumud, Mishrilal, Nikita, Maruti, Randhir, Santosh Kumar, Pal Sharma, Rajnath, Radheyshyam, Soni, Nazeer Kashmiri, Maqbool, Abu Bakar, Dalpat Kaka, Ajeet, N Reddi, Paul Sharma and a parrot ‘Mitthoo’.

Remembrance Day   —    Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar (of Laxmikant-Pyarelal)

Today is the 23rd remembrance day of Laxmikant S. Kudalkar one half of the music composer duo fondly known as L-P.  They were the sole torch bearers by 1988, of the melodious music of the golden era of HFM.   Though RD Burman was still around, but doing very few films.  L-P it seems never took a breather, till the demise of  Laxmikant on 25.05.1998.  I personally don’t know of any instance where Pyarelal composed a film score alone.

The Many Colors of Love #31 – Love Divine
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

And so wrote the scribe

खाक को बुत, और बुत को देवता करता है
इन्तहा ये है के बंदे को खुदा करता है इश्क़

Khaak Ko But, Aur But Ko Devta Karta Hai
Inteha Ye Hai Ke Bande Ko Khuda Karta Hai Ishq

Such a profound statement with a hugely significant implication – words are written by Sahir. Whether you read them in the flow of the entire set of lyrics, or just these two phrases, the import of these words cannot be diminished. And a more grand effect is achieved in rendition. Roshan Sb has put this to a melody that one cannot pulls oneself away from the flow, as line after line is being rendered by Rafi Sb. And finally, the effect of the rendition itself, as the continuous flow of singing gains momentum, the crescendo is rising, and Rafi Sb takes these two line progressively higher from octave to octave – to the most important message in this entire qawwali – “बंदे को खुदा करता है इश्क़ ” – “That Love Elevates Man to the Degrees of God”. This phrase is the ultimate climax – in all aspects – the rising crescendo of the music, the heightening pitch of the singer’s voice, the increasingly fervent clapping of the accompaniment singers, and the magnificent declaration about Love and God – all converging on the heights wherefrom one cannot go any further. For the message delivered is the ultimate statement to be made in this creation, in this existence – that Love Elevates.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 23
———————————————————————————–

This day ten years ago (19 may 2011) saw four songs being covered in the blog. That month of may 2011 was seemingly a month when I was not in a position to discuss songs with the same regularily and rate that I used to achieve in the past. My guess is that summer vacations were on at that time. My school going daughter, my wife and our three pets had joined me at Nagpur and that as the reason for less number of posts in this month. With the benefit of hindsight, even that rate that I managed to achieve in this month ten years ago makes that month seems like a prolific month vis a vis the same month ten years later. 107 songs were covered in may 2011, whereas 18 days of the corresponding month this year has seen only 26 songs getting covered in first 18 days of the month of may 2021.

This Week, That Year – 5
———————————–
09May – 15May, 2011

It has been a long gap. The previous post in this series had come on 23rd Sep, 2020. And the post number was 15911. About seven and a half month’s worth of waterflow has passed under all the bridges. That was 231 days ago. And 450 posts ago. The blog has clocked four more century milestones, and is close to a fifth now.

An understatement it is – that life has changed in these past months. A lot of ideas and motivation for writing has been numbed. Even with the time and inclination both pointing in the right directions, the flow of writing is simply not coming together. Every week for the past 5 or 6 weeks, I scrutinize the 10 year challenge lists. Ideas form in the mind, but somehow do not get on to paper. For this week’s analysis and this post, I have been checking on the week status from a decade ago, for past couple of days. And then today, just decided to start off with this inability to articulate. Let’s see where it will lead to.

This post is coming two days late. Talat Sb’s anniversary of passing away was two days ago (9th May). In preparation and delayed, this post remembers Talat Sb, the velvet voiced wonder who is one of the mainstays of the fond memories of the golden age of Hindi film  music – an era when melody was the queen.

A rare and opportune gathering of talented stars, singers, music makers and writers once came together at the coordinates of a place called Bombay (now Mumbai).  Fortune has a timing of its own, and blessed are those who witnessed this gathering, and also those who continue to enjoy their creations and their histrionics. An august assembly that pulled together in 1940s, it continued gathering momentum along with the fervor of the newly independent India.
