When I meet people and I tell them that I have a blog of old songs, I get some well meaning advices, suggestions etc. One of these well meaning suggestions is that I need not re invent the wheel as far as writing down the lyrics of the song is concerned. Lyrics of all these songs are available in many sites, I am told almost patronisingly.

“Sambandh” (1969) was a movie based on a Bangla novel. This movie had Pradeep Kumar,Deb Mukherji,Anjana Manjrekar (later Anjana Mumtaz),Sulochana etc in it. The movie was produced by Shashdhar Mukherji to launch the acting career of his son Deb Mukherji, just as he had helped launch the career of his eldest son Joy Mukherji one decade back with a home production movie, viz ‘Love in Shimla” (1960).

I just realised that several of the songs that I discuss as a matter of fact here are not all that well known songs. These songs are often difficult to find, and in many cases, finding details about these songs is a tall order too.

In the early 1970s, when I was growing as a pre teen kid, I used to listen to Hindi movie songs and I longed to watch the movies containg these songs. The movies that I wold have dearly loved to see those days, since I loved their songs, were “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972) and “Victoria No. 203” (1972). But unfortunately I could never see these two movies at that time. That remains a big regret of my life to this day.

“Night in London” (1967) is a movie that was clearly inspired from “An Evening in Paris” (1966). “Night in Paris” (1967) had Vishwajeet and Mala Sinha (as against Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in “An Evening in Paris”). On the music front, “Night in London” had the fast rising Laxmikant Pyarelal.

“Fariyaad” (1964) is by now a forgotten movie. This movie had Ashok Sharma, Zeb Rehman,Nazima, Tuntun, Achla Sachdev etc. The movie was different from the usual mainstream Hindi movies and it fared badly at the box office.
