If this movie is still remembered by afew music lovers then that is mainly because of a timeless qawwali that this movie contained. This qawwali was Aise besharm aashiq hai ye aaj ke (Putlibai) by Yusuf Azad and Rashida Khatoon, two famous real life qawwaals of those days.

“Devdas” (1955) was produced and directed by Bimal Roy. The movie was based on Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name. A movie on this novel was made in 1935 with K L Saigal in the title role and that movie ended up being a classic.

Yesterday (12 july 2013) brought us the sad news that Pran, the legendary villain of 1950s and 60s who then turned a legendary character actor of later decades had breathed his last. Pran Krishan Sikand (12 february 1920- 12 july 2013) made his debut in Hindi movies with “Khaandaan” (1942) as a hero. This movie was produced in Lahore, his favourite place. He subsequently made a mark as a hero in Lahore movie circles.
