R D Burman composed over 1700 songs in Hindi movies. Only 19 of these songs had the voice of Mukesh in them.

When I came across this figure yesterday (it is mentioned in the book -R D Burman- the man the music), I looked in the blog and also searched the list of R D Burman songs in HFGK.

Mohammed Rafi – The Incomparable – 7
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
“I’m…fine. I’m just sorry you had to wander under the little black cloud that’s been following me around all day. That’s probably why I nearly ran you over earlier, and why you got stuck with me now.”

Refusing to consider what else could go wrong, she aimed a commendably calm smile at him. If she’d learned anything from her years in advertising, it was that perception was everything. If you appeared in control, everyone thought you were.

“The good news is that it’s me, not you, and that bad days get better.”

“What about bad weeks?”

“Those are the ones that build character.” Or so her grandma said.

“Bad months?” he asked, and watched as her smile made it to her eyes. Something knowing shifted in those doe-brown depths.

“That’s when you need to find something to do that takes you away from your problems for a while. Whatever you’re dealing with won’t go away,” she warned him,“but for that hour or that day, you have taken away its power over you.”

I had copied and saved in the drafts to use for a suitable song some months back, though it has no connection with the song post here.

There are only a handful of Bollywood numbers from movies made after mid-1960s that I really long to hear. Lest I may be misunderstood, this is a statement of personal preference by this music-illiterate, not necessarily an adverse commentary on the later years’ work.

The twinkling eyes and the arresting smile get to your heart when she sings “Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Laaga Teer e Nazar”. An accomplished dancer, who has the capability to take a song, many levels higher.  Witness that in “Diya Na Bujhe Ri Aaj Hamaara” (‘Son of India’, 1962), “Dagaa Dagaa Wai Wai Wai” (‘Kaali Topi Laal Roomaal’, 1959), “Tera Jalwa Jisne Dekha Wo Tera Ho Gaya” (‘Ujaala’, 1959), “Tera Teer O Bepeer Dil Ke Aaram Paar Hai”, (‘Sharaarat’, 1959), “Madhuban Mein Radhika Naache Re” (‘Kohinoor’, 1960), “Rang Rangeela Saanwra Mohe Mil Gayo Jamna Paar” (‘Baarood’, 1960), “Ab Na Chhupo Re Chhalia” (‘King Kong’, 1962), “Kaanha Jaa Re Teri Murli Ki Dhun” (‘Tel Maalish Boot Polish’, 1962), “Zulmi Hamaare Saanwariya Ho Ram” (‘Mr X In Bombay’, 1964), “Tujhse Wo Neha Lagaaye” (‘Shreeman Funtoosh’, 1965), “Door Kahin Door Hamen Le Chalo Sanam” (‘Ek Sapera Ek Lutera’, 1966), “Main To Khadi Re Khadi Re, Aankh Ladi Re Ladi Re” (‘Sab Ka Ustad’, 1967), “Mera Naam Hai Chameli, Main Hoon Maalan Albeli” (‘Raja Aur Runk’, 1968), and many more.  Once again request Atul ji to create a new category – ‘Kum Kum Dances’.

Greetings to Kum Kum on her birth anniversary today (22nd April).

Whenever I came across some interesting songs/links during my searches, I copy them and save them in my ‘draft folder’, so that it can be taken up and shared whenever suitable.

(Thanks to our beloved Shri.Raja ji for his kind support and guidance to me in completion and presentation of this article)

We know Sahir Ludhianvi as a poet of the highest quality, a romantic at heart, and a rebel.

But for me, he was much more than this.
