‘Pooja’ (1954) is a social drama in a village setting. The film is produced under the banner of Verma Films, Bombay, and is produced and directed by Bhagwandas Verma. The main cast of actors includes Bharat Bhushan, Purnima, Om Prakash, Badri Prasad, Ulhas, Shakuntala, Heeralal, Raj Mehra, S Nazir and Jankidas etc. The film has nine songs in all, and the lyrics are shared by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. This particular song is from the pen of Shailendra. The music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

This is one of those few songs that Mohammed Rafi sang for Music Director Anil Biswas for the film ‘Heer’ (1956). Eight songs from this film already posted in the blog. They are all very touching song. This is a film on the legend of Heer-Ranjha, a folk lore of Punjab. Much of the folk music and poetry from this region is devoted to such legendary love stories like Heer-Ranjha, Sohni-Mahiwal and Mirza-Sahibaan. This song ‘ le ja uss ki du’aayen ho jo tera ho na sakaa ‘ is the ninth song to appear in the blog.

The film “Baghaawat” (1982) must be a typical Sultan Ahmed film. It is easy to guess this much from this one song only which I knew from the days it was a new and popular song and played regularly on Radio. I have seen this song also earlier maybe on T.V. because I hav’nt seen this film. A few days back, maybe weeks,
one similar situation song was posted on the blog, which brought this song to mind. I searched and found the link, and been wanting to discuss this song since then.

Today (8 march 2013) is the International women’s day. When I looked up, I find that this day is being celebrated as International women’s day since 1977 when the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace.
