Atul often says that inspite of the blog having already clocked five-digit number of songs, there are still plenty of very good songs out there that have still not found their way to the blog.
In my opinion, that is not a bad thing, because it keeps our journey of discovery interesting and exciting. Compiling songs on this blog is as much about the journey as about the destination – and we take as much pleasure in the journey as in getting closer to our destination. We have milestones, minor and major, that keep beckoning to us to approach them – and as we pass each milestone, we not only celebrate it but also set our sights on the next one.

From the email that Khyati Behn sent me with the lyrics of this song, I reproduce the epithet she has used – “One more song to add to Lataji’s THE BEST MELODIES EVER COLLECTION.” I heard this song, and I do agree with her. A song par excellence, that has long been relegated to anonymity for various reasons and circumstances.

January 7th is the birthday of Reena Roy the actress from the 70s and 80s. she was the one with an earthy look when she wore Indian clothes and could also carry western outfits without looking out of place. She made a successful pair with Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha. She also had a few successes with Sunil Dutt, Dharamendra and Kamalhaasan. She was a decent dancer too—one can’t forget her disco numbers in “Sanam Teri Kasam” and “Rocky”. She has been part of the star cast of Amitabh Bachchan’s “Naseeb” and “Andha Kanoon” but has never been paired opposite him romantically. She was last seen in J.P.Dutta’s “Refugee” as Abhishek’s foster mother.

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 2

For this set of songs, I am confined to the decade of 1960s, and some from 1970. This song is from the 1972 film ‘Anokha Daan’. Simply hard to believe that it is more than four decades that this film was released. The film itself was hard to trace for many years, and was in demand, on account of its music. Now, the film and its songs are easily accessible online.

Badalte Huye Saathi- Episode 1 (Shanta Apte and Vasanti)
———————————
Music is an inseparable part of Indian culture. Music rules our lives. Right from Birth to Death, there is always music going on in the lives of Indians. So, it was no wonder that when silent films started talking, they also started singing. The very first Talkie film of India, Aalam Ara-1931 had 7 songs in it. The very fact that the producers felt the need to include songs in the film, underlines the importance of music in the lives of the movie goers.
