In addition to top Indian stars, it also boasted some international stars. But when the dust settled down, the movie had crashed with no trace of it remaining anywhere.

“Dil ek Mandir”, regarded as one of the celebrated melancholic movie in Bollywood industry is full of sad songs to match, almost all of which went on to become very popular and in fact evergreen. The biggest bollywood hit of all time was “Sholay” that was released in 1975. This movie played on the same movie hall of Bombay for many years. When this movie was finally withdrawn, it was replaced by another movie, which was being so hyped those days that everyone felt it was going to be the biggest movie in Bollywood history, bigger than even “Sholay”. But when “Sholay” was finally replaced by thise movie whose title sounded similar, viz “Shalimar”, this movie “Shalimar” turned out to be the biggest damp squib in the history of Bollywood.

When one talks of tragic actors, what are the names that come to mind ? Guru Dutt and Meena Kumari ? It may be news for people, but in the first decade of their career viz 1950s, they were both known for playing positive, energetic ,bubbly characters oozing with zest for life.

The crown for being the first major tragedy queen of that era should rightfully belong to Nutan. She played quite a few memorable tragic roles in movies. She in fact played a tragic role as early as in 1955 in a movie called “Seema”.

I have mentioned in the past that I had a diary in 1970s, in which I noted down the lyrics of the songs that I liked the most. A few of the songs noted at that time have become forgotten, though they are just as good to listen to now as they were then.
