“Ham Ek Hain” (1946) is a movie with a message. in this movie, Durga Khote, a noble widowed matriarch brings up many orphan kids in addition to her own son. These kids are her own son Shankar (Dev Anand), and orphans Yusuf (Rehman), John (Rane) and Durga (Rehana). As can be seen, she is raising three boys of three different religions as her own, thus sending a strong message of “Ham ek Hain” (We are one).

Vasant Desai had a fairly long stint of thirty plus years in the film industry, and yet his total assignments as a music director are less than fifty. It is said that he did not take up or did not get many assignments because of his style. His style is deeply rooted in the classical and folk traditions, and he maintained that style throughout his career. “Baghdad” (1952) is a B grade Hindi movie starring Bhagwan, Begam Para, Bharti Devi, Hari Shivdasani, Anwar Hussain etc. Like most B grade movies, this movie too has entered the hall of obscurity.

I had not heard of this movie called “Pagle” (1950). This by now obscure movie had actors like Sherry, Jagirdar, Begum Para, Agha Jan, Pratima Devi,Cuckoo etc in it.
