Ah Ganesh, the unsung genius composer, creator of incredible melodies and rhythms that almost never got picturized on the so called grade A stars of his time. His songs, buzzing with hummable and memorable tunes, played themselves out in B and C grade cinema halls, in productions that were considered of the same categories. Some of his songs escaped this banishment to the C grade world, and found a place on the radio waves, and in the mind and memories of listeners. Some such songs have remained in the memories; but then there are many other remarkable creations from him that await re-discovery by aficionados.

These days people fight elections to come to power and once they get a taste for it, then want to cling to it at any cost. During mythological times, the King of gods, viz Lord Indra would cling to his chair like a leech. One did not have to fight elections to come to power those days. One needed to do tapasya (penance) in a jungle for long years. Whenever a tapaswi sage would decide to go to a jungle and do “tapasya”, Lord Indra would get worried, thinking that the sage was after his chair. So he would try to disrupt the “tapasya”.

Today (25 july) is the birth anniversary of Sudhir Phadke. He got very few opportunities to give music in Hindi movies. As a result, most of his musical creations are in Marathi, where he is a legend as a music composer as well as a singer.

“Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli”(1971) was a V Shantaram Productions movie. It was produced and directed by V Shantaram movie. The movie had Ravindra, Vasant Parekh, Minal, Abhijeet, Vastala Deshmukh, Iftekhar, Sandhya, Dina Gandhi, Raja Paranjpe, Nanda, Birbal, Praveen Kumar, Sushant Ray etc in it. The movie was a resounding failure at the box office. Even its songs failed to climb to the popularity stakes. But that is only to be expected seeing that 1971 was a year of bumper crop of outstanding music.

Today (30 june) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji, of the Kalyanji Anandji fame. Kalyanji Anandji were one of the most successful music directors from 1950s till 1970s. Many of their songs have gone on to become immortal. This blog has as many as 255 songs composed by them as of now.
