Today’s song is from a less known film – Mansarovar-1946.

Made by Asiatic Pictures, Bombay, the film was directed by Mahesh Chandra and the music was by S.N.Tripathi – who was known for Mythological films. This was one of the few Social films for which he gave the music. The cast included Nishi Baran, Mazhar Huq, David, Kanhaiyalal, Gulab, Baby Nirmala, Sachin Ghosh and others. Except for David, Kanhaiyalal and Gulab, I do not know anything about the lead pair or other artists.

Today’s song is from a social film – Aadhaar-1945.

This is one of those films about which no other information is available, than what has been given in the HFGK. The film was not available for seeing on the social media and nowhere its storyline was found. In such cases, what to write about it ?

Today’s song is from an obscure, less known Historical film Maharani Minal Devi-1946.

Made by Laxmi productions, Bombay, it was directed by Chimanlal Trivedi, owner of the banner and the music was by Saraswati Devi- who had started her career from Bombay Talkies. The cast was Prem Adib, Leela Desai, Durga Khote, Jagdish Sethi, Sankatha Prasad, Moni Chaterjee etc.etc. There were only 7 songs in this film, written by Neelkanth Tiwari and Swami Ramanand. The number of songs-7 was below the average of 9.8 songs for the decade of 1940.

1946 was an important year in the history of Hindi films. This was the period when the impending Independence of India was on the Anvil and everyone knew that in the year 1947 it would take place. The second World War had just ended, which had created inumerable millionaires, fed on black marketing and illegal trades in the war period. Many of them were keen on investing their ill gotten wealth in the film industry. Thus, there was no dearth of finances in the industry. From 1946 to around the early years of the 50’s, some of these ” novo-rich” persons provided finance. Some even tried their hand at directing films or even acting in it. Let us see what other things happened during this period.

We in this blog tend to be nostalgic about the past. If by some miracle it becomes possible to do time travel and go into the past then most of us will eagerly grab the opportunity.

Let us say we board the time machine and go to 1947. We would find ourselves in a disturbed situation where India is about to gain independence but widespread violence is taking place every where. Let us imagine that we find safe haven in a library. In the library we browse film magazines. When we browse the magazines, we find names of movies and actors that ring no bells. Names of actors ring no bells.
