Today is the 31st of July(2014).
For many Hindi film music lovers, this date makes an immediate connect in their brain. To one of the most beloved persons to have ever been part of the Hindi film industry.
Yes, I am talking about Mohammad Rafi (or Rafisaab, as he is often respectfully referred to).
Today is the death anniversary of Rafisaab.
34 years ago, in 1980, a day that I remember vividly as if it were yesterday, Rafisaab left our midst.

The one voice in the Hindi cinema world that is so different from any others. The one voice that can only be characterized as soulful and naturally so. The sound of this soft voice seems to be coming from great depth. t not a deep bass, or a booming sound. Just a soft voice, moving very easily and comfortably, rising from deep caverns. Unassuming and soothing as it reaches out to the listeners, it is one voice that caresses, soothes and comforts in a way that no other voice can. No matter what the song be, when sung by Mukesh, it seems to get an unexpected ambience and comes alive, as no other voice can make happen. There is a touch of melancholy that rings even in the songs of zest and happiness, that is the hallmark of his singing. Many more such voices have come and will come. But none will be able to connect the sound with the heart as Mukesh could.

Today (22 july 2014) is the 91st birth anniversary of Mukesh (22 july 1923- 27 august 1976). We have been discussing Mukesh songs not only on his anniversary but on other days as well. Less number of Mukesh songs aeing discussed these days for the simple reason that as many as 675 Mukesh songs have already been discussed and only about 200 odd Mukesh songs are left to be discussed.

Today (22 july 2014) is the birth anniversary of Edwina Violette, affectionately called Edu by her aquiantances. She was born in a Military Hospital and the Matron of the hospital gave her the Name Edwina after Lady Mountbatton.
