Today is 24th December 2016 -92nd birth anniversary of Mohammad Rafi.
At first I thought I would not be able to do a post which does justice to the persona of Mohd Rafi. Even now I am not trying to; all that I am doing is bringing to the blog a song which shows the vocal range that Rafisaab was gifted with. And this is not a super classical song but a fun song which one would normally expect Rafi to sing for Shammi Kapoor. But today’s song is for Shashi Kapoor and one should be excused if there is a feeling of the song being a Shankar- Jaikishan creation. Why? Because the director duo of this song were once music arrangers & assistants for Shankar Jaikishan.

On Children’s Day (14th November) we had introduced the children’s film, Dak Ghar (1965) to the blog. This film, produced by the Children’s Film Society of India, is based on the Bengali play of the same name, written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1912.

Today is the 14th of November, celebrated in India as Children’s Day.
This is a day that is remembered to mark the birthday of India’s first Prime Minister and one of India’s Founding Fathers, Jawaharlal Nehru. Since he was considered to be particularly close to children, the day is celebrated as Children’s Day.

As I continue to search for songs for this series, I continue to keep getting surprises. I keep uncovering uncommonly wonderful gems that either I have not heard before, or keep bumping into songs that are memories from long ago, but not heard for a long time. Today’s song is one that I am encountering for the first time. Searching for a good song starting with today’s alphabet, as I was trawling through the folders of Rafi Sb songs on my hard disk, I found this gem a few days ago. A gem that I had not heard before. The year is 1966. This song should have been in memory banks from radio listening days. But no, I do not recall having heard it before.
